just wanted to say - I'm under Mr Small at Sunderland Royal, he's doing my op on 12th.. for me - I had to go to gp several times in last few years all to no avail and was only after a different surgeon refused me an op I needed and referred me back to gp - did gp take notice.
I'd been on Xenical, WW, slimfast, healthy eating etc.. could lose weight but not permanently.
First step was seminar last july 08 at S.R.H and was weighed, then had appointment in october 08 with Mr Balpuri and dietician, went back again in dec 08 after tests that were needed doing ( MUST stress - not everyone needs tests - majority depends on how appointment goes and details you give him) - had test for O.S.A (came back yep.. got it n now use c.p.a.p at night), had blood tests done twice, gastroscopy with biopsy and pics (that was latest one back in march 09) and was told in dec 08 by Mr Small himself - that due to the fact I'd achieved the goal I'd been given in the oct, I could have my operation.
At that point - the waiting list was 5months. I was due to hear by end of april 09 and on 22nd - when had heard nothing, I rung to see what was going on - and given my operation date over the phone then received letter confirming it.. had my pre-op assessment last week and got given all clear (bp checks, blood took, ecg, weight checked and urine spec given) and the lovely nurse went over details and answered questions both me and OH had..
they are wonderful staff and am sure they will make you feel as much as ease as they did us and no doubt anyone else on here who have been through their doors..
good luck and remember.. its a journey.. well done for taking the first steps..
