The Banders Saturday Weigh In

wendym said:
Hi i am a pre lap bander who will be having it done soon! I have been reading all the messages, and am really excited about having my lap band,i have a consultation in cardiff next thursday, but its costing me £7,000,only just found this site and one more, with the cost at £2,000 less?
I have to have it done nearest to Bridgend, where i live, can you recommend any? before i make a commitment.thanks

The hospital group in Worcestershire have it for 5000 and if I remember right it's about hour and half approx from you! The 2000 difference is huge!! I had mine done in march! Hope this helps!!

The key is make sure you can get local fills post op as you can in the first 6months be going once a month!!! And if you work you obviously need to fit appts around that too!!

Hi all, my first post on here! Had my band almost 8 weeks ago and my 1st fill of 2ml just 2 weeks ago tomo. I had lost an incredible 32lbs (2 stone 4lb) in little over 5 weeks but since my fill and moving to more normal food but mushed up, I'm finding I'm really hungry all the time. I can manage a whole 'count on us' 300 calorie meal as long as its not chicken/meat etc. or I just bring it back up after it getting stuck! Cottage pies been good but any tips on this hunger?????
I used to grab a green tea or bovril or cup a soup but it's not working.
Should I call for a top up fill? I can manage noodles with prawns for lunch but I'm struggling with what to eat as I'm so hungry at 2ml and not due back for 6 weeks!!! Help please? You all sound so inspirational xx thank you

When does your provider advise you to go onto normal band friendly food? Ie not mushed up? I am sure you will feeler when eating crunchy band friendly food.

The hospital group .I live in the Manchester area and had the op in Birmingham .They pick you up and drop you off and lots of different clinics for fills .I would deffo give them a ring to check and only £5000 .Good luck .Liz x

Hi flutteryby

Thanks so much for replying

I'm only 7 weeks post op so eating normal food but still a bit wet like shepherds pie. Fish and sauce etc

But I can manage a lot if food and that's not right. I also feel hungry so kinda think I still need a fill as 2ml may not be sufficient.

I'm finding out that the usual chicken and meats stick, so do a lot of green veg.

It's all trial and error but I don't mind that, it's new and exciting eh?

Thanks so much for this wonderful forum!

It won't allow me to update my profile though, oh well

Keep up the good work everyone!!!! You're all amazing xx

Dinky, I am not an expert, but it sounds to me that if chicken and meat and some veg are sticking that you do have some restriction from the band already. Do you keep a food diary such as on myfitnesspal, or if you use the thread http://www.wlsurgery.com/wls-banders/135442-banders-daily-diet-exercise-log.html on this forum to log what you eat on a daily basis, maybe some of us banders could give you some guidance before you have another fill. X

Sorry but to add to flutterby response. You should not eat much wet food unless you are like three or four days after your fill. Wet food slides through so you ll be able to eat more. I did not have any restriction for 5 months and I could eat a steak, chicken, pork chop everything. Now that I do, I can only eat two mouthful of meat but if you give me a cottage pie ready meals I can eat the whole thing.

How's it going mis? Great to see you getting restriction finally! Is the weight now dropping of you?? :) x

I would not say dropping but getting there. So when you have your next fill were is it going to take you to?

I usually do my weigh in on a Tuesday, as my surgery was on a Tuesday....and I started my pre op diet on a Tuesday, So its only right I do a Tuesday weigh in....

Anyhow, this week ive lost 7lbs....(and im 2 weeks post op)....and im so proud of myself, as I thought it wouldnt be even a couple of pounds as I went from sloppy/liquids on week one to mashed and sloppy on week 2.....

Thanks SO much for this, my bariatric dietician at the hospital advises to try all foods to see what i can and can't manage. Also for the moment that foods will need to have some degree of sauce or gravy to help it slip over. I just can't manage meats though as they just stick and eventually come right back up again.

It's all a bit tricky knowing what to have as if there was no wetness I wouldn't be able to eat.
I will do as you recommend Flutterby, sounds like great advice!
Thanks again xx

Absolutely, just when you think you understand your band, he starts playing up! Mine tends to follow a monthly cycle, but other times it could get tighter when I am in stressful situations. Cold food in a morning particularly tightens my band, so for me, even though it's a slider food, a pot of muller light in a morning is the best thing.

It wilL take time, but you will get to understand him xxx

I'm too scared to weigh myself, I have no restriction I snack I pick whilst cooking as banders go I'm probably the worst at moment- I think because I'm cross I can eat a lot I'm eating the wrong foods, im looking forward to my fill - this will motivate me , then I will be honing you lovely people hopefully with losses x

Awww Fizz, you need to stick to mealtimes...have certain healthy snacks if you need to break the day up. x

Just a teeny .25ml this time. That's 8ml now in total.

Jo, do you think you are eating more now you are on weight watchers than you were before, out of interest?

Honestly.....no, but I'm having their crisps n biscuits most days so feel naughty!!! It seems surreal but whilst I'm losing i won't moan :)

Hi Flutterbye .Thanks for the confirmation .Wouldn't you know that today is perfect .I think its taking me up to 2 weeks to adjust after a fill .I'm only up to 5.5 ml s but it really takes ages for it to settle down ,this happened last time but I forgot about it .Thanks Liz x
