She didn't say if she would be at the formal meet tomorrow did she? I understand there are sometimes speakers from the bariatric team. Would be good to hear her if she were a guest speaker! That's if I manage to go!!

hi all I finally spoken to sandwell pct u can pay the xtra money on top but 4 walsall it's am xtra 4,000 pounds she said Walsall overcharges that's why they will only pay for open surgery.but if u go heartlands they pay for keyhole there she said they have told mr khan to lower the price. I did have the option to change hospital but I think I will stick with mr khan he seems like he knows what his doing. But ivhope they do allow children in coz I got 4 under 6 and I can't go 4 days without seeing them it will kill me

thats really useful info natalie. I didnt even know they did bariatric surgery at Heartlands, but good that you can pay the difference if you can afford it.

That must have been so awful for you Red - presumably you weren't *meant* to be awake???

No, I wasn't! It was at the old women's hospital which was at St. Chad's, Hagley Road, Brum (now the home of the West Mids Strategic Health Authority).

Whilst I couldn't feel pain, I felt tugging and pushing/pulling and everything that was being said. I was desperately trying to move my hand or open my eyes, but of course couldn't because I was paralysed!

I ripped out the contraption they put down your throat keep you breathing out of my mouth (dunno what it is called) and it hurt. I said 'I was awake you b*sta*rds!'

I must have been coming fully conscious. As I did so, someone said 'My God! She's awake.' I then felt a needle go into me and I was out again.

I have had several surgical procedures since then and have talked to the anaesthetist at some length before each one, because I am so frightened.

I am happy to report that (touch wood!) I have not had a repeat experience.

NHS Choices gives the patient the opportunity to see a specialist and have treatment at the hospital of their choice, providing it meets the right criteria.

Have a look at the DoH link here

Can you tell I work for the NHS? lol!

Just a reminder for anyone who is interested. Walsall Manor are holding a WLS information session tomorrow night, weds 21st Jan at 6.30pm

Its at Harrisons Sports and Social Club, 28 Wharwell Lane, Great Wyrley WS6 6EU. The hospital did say that anyone is welcome, whether pre or post op, or just considering surgery.

Dr Hartland said its for people at all stages - pre and post op - and those just considering surgery. I was told I could bring a friend or my husband if I wanted to.

If you are thinking of it Red, I could give you a lift if you like

I am looking forward to tonight...but also slightly nervous. I shall be the one who has bitten off all her lovely long nails with worry :( lol

I shall be the one in a grey cardigan lol :D
