I havnt got my letter yet, i only have it verbally.

Dr. Hartland said i would get my next appointment within 8 - 12 weeks and i have it in 11 weeks time.

xx

don't really know rach cause a lot of us have not had a second appointment yet and those of whoa have got a date this is for our pre op which you only really get once funding has been approved ? What did dr hartland say it would be for and who gave you the appointment?

Dr Hartland said it is so i see the dietician etc...
I was thinking that it was for my pre op assesment??

But i am not sure now...
I got my appointment over the phone i will have a letter in the post.

I called up just to see if i could get my date for my next appointment and they had booked me on for 8 months time instead of 8 weeks.

So she checked my file and that and then gave me my appointment for April.

After my initial appointment, I had a letter come through with an outpatient appointment for 27th March. It didn't say what it was for so I rang Mr. Khans' secretary who told me it was to see the psyche, Dr. Kendrick.

That was before my funding had been approved.

After my funding was approved (eventually) in 2nd week of Jan, I got a letter a couple of days after with my pre-op assessment dates. I rang and said that I'd be happy to take any cancellations and a couple of days later had a letter that brought my 2nd pre-op (with the anaesthetist) forward one week.

I was sent for sleep apnea tests and I now have a CPAP machine, I don't think that this hs delayed my op by much at all. My GP was a anaesthetist before he became a GP, and he said that it is important for a anaesthetist to know if you have sleep apnea.
The CPAP machine is great when you get use to it, I now feel like I get better sleep, wake up refreshed and have more energy to do more activities, they do say that you can lose weight because of the treatment as you are more active.

Thank you hun
xx

I tried Tracey and got through, she said she doesnt deal with the op appointments and told me to try Karonica, which i did and she had left for the day. So will try again at 8.30 tomorrow morning.

Sam i only know Tracey on 7770, or going through the switch board which takes forever, LOL.

I'm getting really concerned about my case. Both Sue and Rachael, who had their initial appointments after me have been given second appointments already.

Nothing was mentioned to me about having to have a second appointment. I thought that my next appointment would be my first pre op. Ive tried a million times today... well, 6 times to be exact to get through to chase up my funding but couldnt get through.

Do you peeps think this is a new procedure having a second appointment to meet dietician etc and do you think funding will still be applied for after first appointment?

Im really confused

Dont no if I read this right Sam I had 3 appointments Ist saw Dr Hartland and dietian 2nd was blood tests swobs and breathing tests 3rd was to see anethsatist

Thanks for replies girls.

Teen, as I understood it - most people have had same procedure as you. Inital appointment where you are given a decision, then 1st pre op for bloods, mrsa swab etc etc, then 2nd pre op for anaesthetist making 3 appointments in total.

I'm not sure whether Rachael and SUe have already recieved their first pre ops (within a couple of days of intial appointment) or whether this is an additional appointment they have received - kind of an extra appointment before the pre op... sorry I'm not making much sense I know, but Im really confused.

Vicky, at my first app I only saw Dr Hartland and Ana, I was given a leaflet with all dietician details on as dietician was on holiday apparently but told i could ring up next week if I had any probs. Dont know if this will make any difference.

I was told that the next I would hear from hospital would be for my pre op appointment when funding in place - but I am now doubting this because of Sue's and Rachaels experiences. It could of course just be different procedures for different PCT's.

Sam you had the same as me, I dont think you will need to see anyone again until you go for your pre-op assessments. But saying that i do know that WM are changing their policies of how they handle all the cases and that come from someone who has left.

Perhaps try Karonica cos she is the one who deals with emailing, for pre-ops and then they sent the letters out, to us.

Thanks Vicky. I am just stressing in case they are going to turn me down. Dr Hartland did say it was a yes, and i do meet PCT criteria so I know im prob being irrational.

It does make sense if it is a change of procedure.

It could just be a change of procedure, as most of us have had roughly the same experience 1st appointment - funding applied for - added to waiting list- pre op dates given. I was under the impression from my meeting that you would only be given a pre op date if your funding had been approved. Ginger nutter did say that generally there are changes a foot in the funding criteria, could this be to include a cooling off period (it was one of the recent peeps who mentioned this, but can't remeber who). May be at last walsall have realised that their pre op system is absolutelty shocking and have decided to do something about it.

Sam what leaflet did dr Hartland give you about the dietician, all I was told was that she would be in touch in due course, still not heard anything.

Sam,
Were you given some papers at the end of your first appointment with Dr. H? I was given info about a gastric bypass, a dietary advice sheet and contact numbers for Ana and for the dietician. I was also given some papers which he told me to hand to Lesley, and ask for an appointment in 8 weeks time. He said that there would be several other people to see me at the next appointment and that from that appointment I would be no more than 18 weeks away from surgery. My appointment came through a few days later for the 17th April. I was a bit confused about this appointment so I telephoned Lesley (a couple of times). She said it would be my first pre-op. I'm still not entirely convinced, so will just have to wait and see. There seems to be quite a few different approaches, so who knows? I think if I were you, I'd give them a call tomorrow, to ask if you should have had a second appointment through by now.

Cheers Terri, It does sound like a change of procedure doesnt it. I do hope so but cant help stressing and worrying that it means Im going to be turned down. :(

I was given an "enjoy your food - lose weight " booklet and a couple of sheets of A4. Cant remember what they were now but I'll dig them out and let you know. I was told only to ring dietician if I had any worries or questions.

thanks sue. I was given a piece of paper to hand to receptionist (it wasnt lesley on the night that i went) but I wasnt told to ask for another appointment. I was just told that they would now apply for funding and I would receive a pre op letter once funding was in place. Nothing was said about a second appointment.

I will ring again tomorrow hun. Thank you,

There you go Sam - that says it all really!! Now breathe in, hold, breathe out...!!!

I really wouldn't worry, though, about being turned down. I can't see them saying yes, then going back on it. Also, I don't think they would have given you the diet advice sheets and numbers for Ana and the dietician if they didn't intend to operate. It's just frustrating not being able to find out exactly where you are in the system, and how long you are likely to have to wait. x:hug99:
