Allergic to food and immune to diets: my gastric bypass story

Great news on the interviews Sara!

Mmmmnn swimming sounds like bliss today. Sensible choice!!! Great about the interviews, hope they go/went well!!

Sara you weighed in again I see, but I can't remember what your weight loss was before!

Hey Sara... glad to hear all is going well :)

I wanted to ask if you eat eggs, and if so, how soon did you start eating them again? Also, how soon were you back on Quorn slices etc?

x

Hi Ali,
It was lovely and refreshing to go swimming, but the pool was packed because everyone had the same idea! I haven't done any interviews yet, but have a few set up for next week to get me started with a couple of features.

Hi Shel,
I have only lost a couple of pounds this week, but at least it's moving again now!

Hi Ollie,
I do eat eggs and quorn. I had eggs with low calorie salad cream in the second week post op, I think. I had it liquidised and had to add quite a bit of water to amke it soft enough. It was nice to have a different taste though and it mixes well with potato too. I didn't try quorn until after the third week. The mince was much easier to eat in bolognese as the pieces and slices are quite chewy. I started having quorn slices, quorn pieces and tofu in week six. I found veggie ready meals like Korma and cannelloni easy to eat when I was on soft foods after week three. Hope that answered your question. If you need more ideas then get in touch. I log on here most days.

I pushed the boat out tonight and went for a meal at the Harvester. I convinced the waitress to serve me a healthy stuffed mushroom kids' meal (I told her I'd had an 'operation' and she asked no more questions!). I had a few bits from the salad bar and a quarter of the meal. It was delicious! When the waitress collected our dishes, she said, "Oh, yeah I understand why you wanted a children's meal". I was disappointed because I'd tried to pile all the wasted food in the corner of the plate to make it look like I'd eaten more!! I could, honestly, not have eaten another bite though because I was stuffed. After my timed half an hour I had a couple of glasses of dry white wine. I felt like I'd had a lovely treat! What's more, Gordon won a double jackpot on the fruit machine so we went home with more money than we had actually gone out with! Now that is a cheap date! Lol.

Hi Sara,

Glad to hear you are doing so well. I am now 10 weeks post op and have lost 3 stones 12lbs.
We go to the Harvester at the Reebok as I love the help yourself to the salad cart, but since the op, we just don't our value for money!!! If I start eating salad, I don't get through much of my meal. I am surprised they allow you to eat a kids meal - I thought they were quite fussy with the age of the child!!

Congrats on the upcoming wedding. I got married 17 months ago and absolutely loved planning it. I did it over 18 months as the venue, Statham Lodge, Lymm, is always booked up so far in advance. We paid a lot for the venue, but I saved money elsewhere. I found my Alfred Angelo dress in a shop in the UK, and then ordered it from a bridal shop in New York. Over here they wanted £800 for it and I got it for £270 including shipping from New York. Over here there was a 12 week wait for delivery, and I got it in just over 2 weeks from NY. The exact same dress, brand new, directly from Alfred Angelo. They were so helpful too and great communicators via email. I always recommend them. Here is the link to their Ebay store. They are also open to offers!!!

eBay Store - Just Pretty: DaVinci Bridal Gowns, Demetrios Gowns, Alfred Angelo Bridesmaids

I made my own favours after shopping for bargains, had a friend sing at the wedding, bought 5 gorgeous matching bridesmaid dresses off Ebay and the list go's on. You can do it on a budget, and it still look amazing.

Good luck and let me know if you need any other contacts!

Hi Lottie,
Wow, what a fantastic weight loss you have. Well done!
Thanks for the wedding tips. I've not been able to get in touch with the church pastor as he's away this week, but I'll try to get in touch with him soon to get things rolling. I've been looking for a reception venue, but I just can't choose!
I'll be in touch if I need more tips. Thanks again.

Hi Sara... just wanted to say well done on your success so far and I really hope you get your dream dress for your wedding!!!

I also hope you and Gordon get to the bottom of his health problem and you can move on to a healthier future together :)

Take care

Must make it difficult getting up stairs and getting dressed...

(sorry, I seem to be in a cheeky mood today   )

Seriously, I have everything crossed for you as well...

Hi everyone!
This week has been hectic. Every evening since Sunday I've been giving lifts to Gordon because he sold his motorbike and needed to deliver it, his mum wanted him to sell her car so I gave him a lift there and now his car's in the garage for a service so I gave him a lift to the garage. it doesn't sound like much, but it's very time consuming! So I'm tired. I've also been working on my dissertation etc so life is hectic. We're off to Scaotland for a firewalking course for two weeks on Friday, so I really have to go through my wardrobe to see what fits instead of living in the same shorts that I bought! I may even need to squeeze a bit of shopping in because I'm an in-between size at the mo.
My weight is at a standstill - again. I think I'm becoming lazy and eating too many carbs to be honest. At least when I go away we will be on a vegetarian diet so we will have pleanty of fresh veggies cooked for us. I can't seem to tolerate breakfast in the morning tgese days for some reason. It either makes me feel sick or tired! I'm not sure why! Any ideas? My period also keeps restarting on and off for some reason. My body feels like it's completely alien at the moment. Do you think the bypass can affect periods?!

Hi Sara

You are busy busy busy!!!!!!!!!!

My weight has been at a complete standstill for about two weeks now.... driving me insane, begining to wonder if he has done anything!!!!!!!!!!LOL

I get so tired too... especially with running around, tires me out more

Hope you have a great time

Hi Sara,

I don't know much about bypass as I had a band but I do know that weight loss (especially rapid weight loss) does affect your cycle. However, if the stop-starting continues, and it becomes "abnormal bleeding" then you should go see your GP.

Hope that helps.

Hello everyone!
I'm quite pleased with myself today because I have interviewed 7 people for my dissertation and cleaned the house. Yesterday I started to ponder about what to wear when I go to Scotland, whether it's sunny or rainy. I tried on loads of clothes that were previously too tight for me and I now seem to have a "new" wardrobe as a lot of them fit! The scales aren't budging, but I hope they will once I come from Scotland as I'll be on a healthy diet for 2 weeks solid. It's actually quite tasty as it's all vegetarian.
