Allergic to food and immune to diets: my gastric bypass story

Last night was quite hard for me. I have been busy all weekend until then, so food hasn't been an issue. As it's that time of month, mind hunger hit me last night. I got a bottle of wine and a DVD to keep my mind of food, but the wine wasn't nice and the film was worse. That meant that I was there trying to resist the naughty foods, but had little success. In the end I nibbled on a profiterole. Chocolate is always my downfall! I didn't dump at all, but later on my mind was still hungry. I gave in and had a small rice dish. By then I was full to the brim. Nothing I eat was as nice as I'd imagined, but I just couldn't resist. I felt quite useless having had a tiny binge, but what is done is done I suppose. I guess I have learnt my lesson that I don't need naughty things because now they don't make me feel any better.
Today has been productive because the washer arrived early so I now have the rest of the day to get things done for my dissertation.

Don't be too hard on yourself Sara - we all have our issues to deal with relating to head hunger and our past gluttony too! You sound like you were actually in control last night - one profiterole could easily have led to more, instead you opted for a healthier option of rice when you still were not satisfied - now I call that pretty virtuous!!
This may be the first 'binge' (not sure it qualifies as a binge!!) and it won't be the last - you will not learn all of the changes you need to make immediately - after all you didn't have a mind transplant at the same time as the bypass!!! You are doing great girl, better than you realise so stop beating yourself up and get working on that delightful dissertation!!!!

Ohh thanks Ali. I really appreciate your support. I know it wasn't a major binge, especially because there was a big gap between that and the rice (not wanting to over stretch my pouch!). I could not physically have eaten another profiterole! It just reminded me of how hard it used to be when diets didn't make the weight come off. I wish they did mind transplants so that I could change my whole attitude to food! lol. It bugs me that at that time of month, I retain water. I know deep down that it is water retention, but the devil in me says that I'm not losing weight, which really doesn't help me resist temptation.

but rest assured, it is the same for us all!!! Lol - why did women get the periods and not the men?? sooo unfair me thinks!!

Speaking of temptation...everyone had a takeaway today so i had some chips from other people's portions and bought myself some noodles and had a spoonful of them. I have not dumped!!! I spent ages after the meal dishing out my noodles into freezable containers so I will be living off it for the next month! lol.
Gordon's going back to hospital tomorrow for 2 cameras because the consultant isn't convinced that they've got to the root of the problem. So I'll be there waiting and praying that they actually sort him out for good. Please keep everything crossed everybody!

I have everything crossed too Sara - thinking of you both today, keep us posted and hope all goes well xx

Hope they sort it out for him Sara, if you need any medical deciphering just shout lol ;)

Well thank you all for your positive thoughts. I've just got back and it went well. We had to wait an hour and a half for the surgeon, but after that he was only in half an hour. he decided to only have 4mg of sedative because he is allergic to so many things. He was well aware of what was happening and apart from being tired he's fine. They didn't see anything obvious or serious, but have taken swabs of his stomach and colon. I feel like we're finally on the way to eliminating a lot of things so that we can hopefully, when he gets the resuts back in a few weeks' time, find out what is causing all the problems. After over 3 months it's about time!!

Glad things went well yesterday Sara, hope Gordon is not feeling too sore today xx

glad it went well Sara, fingers crossed that the results clear things up for you x

Thanks girls.
Gordon is sore now and has been off work today to recover. He was completely sonked out last night and this morning. Today he has been talking about getting married!! We are on a very tight budget so any tips regarding a cheap wedding reception and clothes etc would be gratefully appreciated! Especially any ideas about reception venues in y area (North Manchester/Bolton). I do have an issue with being a fat bride though!

Hi Sara,

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!! I am a newlywed and always happy to talk weddings!! lol And don't worry for a second about being a "fat bride" - you will feel (and look) like a million dollars!!

If you are on a tight budget, you should have a look at the wedding dresses on ebay. There are companies in China who will copy a designer dress, make it to your measurements and ship it to you for just a couple of hundred pounds.

I was quite active on the forums at confetti.co.ukwhen I was planning my wedding. The girls on there are fab and give loads of tips and trawl the internet to help you find things. You should check it out!

Alice xx

congratulatios on your forthcoming wedding. Get yourself registered on freecycle a friend of a friend was getting married but is very much into green issues. She didnt want to cause futher carbon footprint and put an add out for everything she needed. she got dresses, suits, artificial boquets, tiara, ring cushion, invites that she revamped the middle of, favors that she turned into goody bags as for her reception she decided to make it a fun day to remember as there were a lot of children in the family and they took everyone to camalot. Sh hired a coach and pre booked and got a fantastic group offer.
apparently it was a day to remember and everyone had a fantstic time.
