Allergic to food and immune to diets: my gastric bypass story

Hello everyone!
The wedding went extremely well. It was a lvely day (apart from the rain) and the bride (my friend from uni) looked beautiful. I had some of the soup and a few bits of pasta as well as a couple of spoons of the cheesecake and didn't dump. I consumed 4 glasses of buck's fizz, a couple of glassed of wine, some champagne and even a couple of half pints of lager shandy! All without dumping even with the fizz in the drinks. It was nice to have a few drinks, but I didn't get half as drunk as I thought I would. Is this normal 3 months post op?? I got Gordon to take a few photos of me which is in the photo album on my profile if you want a peek, seeing as you'd asked me to show you. I'll try to add a few photos of myself post op too.

Fabby pics Sara, gorgeous dress and you look lovely. Every time I see photos of you and Gordon you look so happy with eachother, it's heartwarming x

Sara, you looked amazing on Saturday, what a difference already to before the op, you should be very proud xx

Thanks Ali and Smiler. I'm glad that there is some difference!
Smiler, I seem to dump on most things at breakfast time, not throwing up or anything just rushing to the toilet and feeling sick. It also happened after lunch but that's gone now. I basically don't fancy anything to eat during the day, but have to eat for energy. I eat a lot of the foods I used to, like quorn or wholemeal toast, which I used to be fine with but in the last few weeks I suffer big time. The only thing that doesn't seem to make me dump during the day are puffy crisps, some light soft white bread and crispbread, which really aren't good for my weightloss. At tea time I have to stick to veg, soup or potato because quorn and pasta, even in small quantities makes me dump a lot. I don't want to put on weight, but I'm struggling because the choice at lunch and breakfast is quite limited when I'm in a rush or eat a packed lunch. Any ideas? Thanks.

Could you phone your consultant and ask advice? Must be awful to feel sick all the time.

Just checked out your photos, you look fab in the latest ones what a big difference from your pre op ones. Cant advise on the food as not yet had an op but I am taking on board all the things you and other posters say about after the op....Linda x

Sara is it definatly dumping or are you developing irritable bowel syndrome r something. Try keeping a food diary and seeing if you can identify anything from that.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the compliments and advice. I phoned my dietician today who is going to speak to my surgeon and phone me back on Wednesday. She really couldn't explain all the "dumping" so long after my op, so she told me to go to see the GP in case I have something else. I've made an appointment for tomorrow, so I'll let you all know if I find out what's making me feel this way. Thanks again.

Hi Sarah. Nausea and light headedness hmmmm lots of possible causes.

- Low blood pressure
- Low iron levels
- Trainee Human Production
- Hormone problems
- Blood sugar ups and downs

Any possibilities?

Hi Shel,
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not very medically clued up so what is Trainee Human Peoduction??
I will mention them all to my GP this afternoon. The problems did occur after my last period, so it may be hormonal possibly.
I have had to rush to the toilet twice already this morning. Not very good seeing as I had an hour to sit a writing test online for a job I'm trying for. To top it all the electricity went off 5 mins into the test so I had to run down to the meter to press the emergency button and reload the whole computer again. It's all done now, thank God, so I'm waiting for a response. Tick tock! lol. I'm home until 1 and then have an interview for my dissertation before going to the surgery to see the GP. No doubt I'll be checking my emails every 5 mins!

I got an email to say that I should hear how the job test towards the end of the week. Fingers crossed!
I also saw the GP. He was happy to get the nurse to test my blood sugars and lots of other things tomorrow morning. He also prescribed some pills to stop me feeling ill after I eat. he's not sure what's wrong with me, but is trying to figure it out through these tests. I'll let you know the results when I get them.

Hope you get things sorted quickly Sara, sounds like a positive step in the right direction though x

Trainee Human = baby ;)
