Allergic to food and immune to diets: my gastric bypass story

Today has been an up and down day. I was exhausted this moring after spending last night on the peat with local police officers as research for my dissertation. I had breakfast and felt tired so had a lie down. Then we went shopping to Manchester and I had noodles for lunch (only a little bit) and the pills made me feel a bit better. I was tired again after 4 hours' shopping and I've now had some noodles for tea and haven't suffered.

WE've been getting requests to do firewalks by lots of people so I'm guessing that the next month will be hectic with travelling around the country to do firewalkst, my interview, my work experience, working and also completing my dissertation by October 7th. I hope my sickly feeling goes away so that I can put a 100% effort into everything!

For tonight, I'm going to have a glass of wine and watch a DVD so that I can recharge my batteries and be fresh tomorrow.

hi winky how r u hun xxx sorry u didnt get the job but good luck with the trisha one dnt 4get wen u get famous remember us ok lol xxx

Hi Sara,

Good Luck on the trisha job!!

Thinking of you

Hi Mandy and Smiler,
Sorry if I'm not on much but it's go, go, go at the minute! I'm trying to not do too much Mandy, but with the dissertation deadline looming I don't have much choice! I completed the last interview today and hope to have written up all my notes tomorrow so that I can then compile all the interview notes into five features over the next couple of weeks. I'm getting lots of teaching to do at the moment too, so I basically have Tuesdays and Wednesdays and some of the weekend to work on my dissertation because I do two days of work experience too. I'm hoping to work on the dissertation on the long train journey to my Trisha interview on Friday to get even more done though. Hey, it's all fun and games!
On the plus side, I have discovered what I can eat for breakfast without feeling sick! Wait for it....
Crispbread with melted mozzarella cheese!
It's quite tasty, but not exactly what most people would eat in the morning. I do suffer at lunch though. I had mashed swede and potato with beans today and felt horrible after it. I'll keep trying different things. I hope that you're both well.

Hi everyone,
WEll I'm officially ona not very balanced diet of crispbread, cheese, veg, potato and puffy crisps. These seem to be the only things that don't have a bad effect on me! I sent my dietician my food diary but she nor my surgeon can think what's wrong. The puzzling thing is that I suffer at breakfast and dinner more than tea time, which is usually fine. I'm getting fed up of eating the same stuff, but I'm scared to try anything else because I don't want to be ill at work again. My blood tests didn't show anything and my blood pressure is fine. I drink plenty so I'm not dehydrated. I don't see the GP now until the 29th. I am a puzzle!
I'm also a day behind with my disserttation work because I've got a new laptop which has taken ages to set up. I bopught it so that I could work on the move, so hopefully it will pay off.
I have bought some new clothes and people are now noticing the difference in my weight. My neighbour called me Twiggy today! Lol. I wouldn't say I fit into that category, but at least it shows that I'm shrinking a bit.
On work experience tomorrow and then I have my interview on Friday. I've also got another interview as a web journalist in Scotland, so who knows where I'll end up! I don't have a date for that one yet though, which is a good thing really because time is of the essence for the dissertation!

Thanks for all your good luck wishes. The interview went really well, but there are a lot of people trying for the job, so who knows. I should find out if I am successful in a week's time.
The reason that I've not been online is because Gordon collapsed at work and is in hospital. They think that he has gastronitis or a ruptured ulcer in his stomach. He's going to have a camera tomorrow but until then he's on lanzoprazole like me and has to stay in hospital.

Oh no... I've had Gastritis and it is no fun :(

I hope it's just that and not an ulcer misbehaving... fingers crossed for the Endoscopy tomorrow, and please let us know when you can.

Take care and lots of hugs and best wishes to you both x

PS fingers crossed that they see sense and give you the job ;)

oh no Sara! hope he's ok. Maybe they'll get to the bottom of everything now at least. Here if you need me, you know that.

Hi Ollie and Shel,
Thanks for the support. I hope that they get to the bottom of this soon too. Ollie, what were the symptoms of your gastritis? Gordon always tries to see if the doctors are right or not.
It was funny when I went to see him after lunch, because I was dumping and he had exactly the same symptoms so I keep telling him he's dumping now too.
I'll keep you all posted as soon as I know anything.

hey thinking of u winky xxx a couple of months ago my eldest son who is 22 had a burst ulcer he hadto have an op, we didnt even know he had it, take care winky catch u soon xxx

HI everyone,
Smiler, thanks. What were your son's symptoms? How long did it take him to rrcover etc? I don't know much about them and am trying to learn!
I have just got back from the hospital. They'd given him morphene and he was a lot more comfortable and in less pain. He's really worried that they may give him sedation or general anaesthetic tomorrow which usually doesn't go down well because he's hyper sensitive to stuff like that. He has eaten some tea though because he;s in less pain and his blood pressure was low today but is more normal now.
I will keep you all posted. I really appreciate all your support.

hey winky hope gordon is feeling better hun, well wen tom had the ulcer the days b4 it he just complained of an upset stomach and he said he sort of felt hungry but wasnt if that makes sense, we all went to bed and he woke me up shouting outside my bedroom door, wen i opened the door he was on the floor soaked in sweat, and being sick, i phoned the dr and they wouldnt come out they just said he had a virus, 1 hour later after being sick yet again we rushed him down the hospital by car, they saw him straight away as it was the early hours of the morning and took him for an x ray, they came back and said he had a burst ulcer and a hole in his bowel he was prepped for surgery immediately and told us he was lucky to be alive, he also had peritonitis, now he has to ake omeprazole now for life as its unusual for someone that age to have an ulcer, mind u he says i caused it from moaning at him lol, the bo avnt heard nothing yet lol, hope everything goes ok for u and gordon, thinking of u both, big hugs hun xxx

Thanks Smiler. Gordon's not vomiting but has pains in stomack, loss of weight and appetite and feels sick and dizzy. I spoke to him this morning and they've decided to page another dr who did a camera for him a few months ago instead of giving him another camera. I just want them to get to the bottom of it and then sort him out once and for all.

Hi HUnny

SO sorry to hear about gordon... send him my love...... and you take care of yourself too..... you know where I am if you need to chat!

Hi Mandy,
Thanks for the support. I have cancelled work for today and postponed my Inverness interview to next week so that I can be around if he has to go for an op, so I'm on standby. I'm just working on my dissertation with the phone right next to me in case there are any changes.
How are you doing? Still working on that list?

Ollie, what were the symptoms of your gastritis?

I've just replied to your PM, baba

x

PS If he needs an Endoscopy, they can use a local anaesthetic spray - they don't have to give sedation etc if he doesn't want it :)
