Gastric Balloon Any ballooners out there? Support needed!

Good luck Peppermint! First few days suck but it gets better.

Wearing size 16 jeans and size 14 top today! Plus new boots. It's 30 degrees out but it's December and I want to pretend!

Have a good weekend everyone!

What have you done to get over the nausea woody?

What have you done to get over the nausea woody?

Hi Kismet
I have been taking peppermint oil capsules and domperidone (think that's how it's spelt) on a morning lansoprazole on an evening and making sure I'm drinking a lot and eating regularly. I have been eating bland food and snacks. Also been trying to eat lean protein and carbs at each meal for energy. I am still not completely over the nausea but it's better. I find when I'm hungry the nausea is worse.
How are you today? Xxx

Hi woody I'll add that to my shopping list. On the look out for papaya tablets recommended by neisie. I find tonic water really soothes my tum when it starts. It was actually recommended by my provider and it works for me. I know there is a lot on here about not drinking fizzy drinks but it really helps me.

Unfortunately it is very much about watching what you put in your mouth when it comes to the balloon and reflux and even then you may not be entirely free of it :(. In my case sometimes even the most innocent looking foods could cause it to flare up. It took about two months of experimenting with various foods before I had a list of relatively "safe" things that I could put in my mouth. I hate to say it but for me "safe" meant bland & boring :sigh: and I still had reflux but at least it was at a bearable level. My surgeon on the day of the balloon removal said he was surprised that I had lasted so long with it as the vast majority who do suffer with reflux usually throw in the towel within weeks. I had no option as I had to shed nearly 8stone of weight before they would even contemplate doing my gastric bypass and to do that I needed a little bit of help. So in my mind it was a necessary evil. It was the longest six months of my life I can tell you!

Hi femfrankie, I am learning fast what I can and cannot eat and my diet is getting blander lol. I have a list of foods that are a big no no. I have been threatened that if things don't settle they will take my bauble (well it is Christmas) out. I am determined to make it work so will do what I must and if it means a bland diet so be it. I doubt I'll break your record of weight loss with the balloon but I'll give it my best shot xx

You can do it Kismett
It was the gp who prescribed peppermint oil capsules and a one a day doses works, I wonder if peppermint tea would help also
Let's stay strong together xxx

You can do it kismet. Peppermint didn't help mine ..it made it worse
However, much to my dieticians disgust, I found one ginger nut biscuit a day helped tremendously . Not good from a dieters point of view and it may have been psychosomatic but I wasn't knocking it because it certainly went a long way to making my life a bit more comfortable!

Hey ladies! How's everyone feeling today? Kismet - you're doing great, keep positive and track your foods so you can pinpoint the culprits.

I've had a great day! Weighed in this morning and I'm down 13 kilos! That's just over 2 stones! Woo hoo! Plus two ladies at work that I haven't seen in awhile had a jaw dropping moment when they saw me :p Tried on a bunch of clothes and I'm getting into my smaller sizes, can't believe I'm wearing 14's again! Very excited! I'm almost 1/2 way to my weight loss goal :) Leaving for vacation in 13 days - hoping to drop 5 more lbs by then... Think that's possible?

Never thought of ginger nut biscuits may try that. My dietician is noticeable in her absence haven't had much support from her I'm not sure she knows much about the balloon.

Ginger and papaya are both known to ease stomach upset. Instead of having a cookie maybe dried ginger would be better? You could get it in the health food store.

If you want I'd be happy to send you my diet plan from my dietitian. She has worked with over 30 ballooners. Some of the food she suggests is middle eastern... I would never eat lebnah and olives for breakfast, but most of it is a good diet plan that's easy to follow - 1,000 calories a day, and limits carbs and processed foods.

Feeling a bit green around the gills today after balloon put in yesterday, I'm really confused as they are trying to get solids into me and I can't bare the thought... Is that normal? xx
