Gastric Balloon Any ballooners out there? Support needed!

Any advice on digestion times with balloon? I ate chicken and lamb around 1830 yesterday. Can still taste it now and still on my tummy trying to come up... :-( xx

Either barf :( or some soda water will help wash it off. I have a horrible time with mushrooms.

Went to an amazing dinner with the hubs last night. 12 courses but all only two or three bites. Thankfully it's considered polite not to finish your plate here. Only three nights left of vaca and then back to the real world and a liquid diet! Argh!

Sounds like something has got stuck on or behind the balloon. Drink loads to try and flush it through. I usually ended up being sick I'm afraid to say.. :( x

Thanks ladies, well I feel way much better this morning and its by balloon anniversary on Monday how quickly that's come about! 22lbs down to date, really I should go to asda and fill out it with same amount of sugar, I'm sure I'll struggle to lift it... xx

Dear Pepermint fairy

How much weight have you lost by far?
I hope you are feeling better now....

As far as I am concerned I am better but no matter how less I eat I have these burps, I try to drink a lot of water to avoid them. I have lately realized that if I do not control eating habits in the long term I will get back to my abnormal diet even with the balloon!
I feel that is the biggest challenge to completely stop thinking and craving for food.

I maintain a diary and note down whatever I eat just to keep a balance

Soumya I weigh myself every other day but record my weight once a week, I'm currently down 23lbs. When I get the burps I drink fizzy water to flush, I still get sickness, and can't eat meat anymore the pain outweighs the good taste! I still like to have baby food, helps with portion size I'm also eating 1/4 of portions I would usually have. Solids are still the struggle. I'm also having shakes, yoghurts they help. I eat little and often, so I rarely feel hungry, I also drink around 2l water throughout the day. I don't food diary, How is your weight loss coming along? x

I obviously can't eat much or the way I use to eat. But unlike other I dont have pain, I just feel something is moving rapidly in my stomach after I have eaten but it does not hurt. I have been on liquid diet as well but occasionally eat rice and oats. I fear that I will again gain the capacity to eat a full meal! My doctor warned me that this might happen, that is why I record so to keep check.

I don't know what to do with burps, my mother suggest me to go for a walk and drink water with some lemon juice in it, this does help but I always wonder why we get these burps when we are hardly eating!
Physical movements help a lot but I feel lethargic all the time :(

I was advised that food was getting stuck to the balloon and fizzy water helps clean it xx

Hi ladies!

I want to share my HUGE thanks, as your posts have been so helpful - in "getting ready" terms as well as in better understanding of what's really going on with me!

Had my balloon (Spatz - for 12 months) inserted on Jan 3, 2014. And I've been soooo sick since then! Haven't managed to eat anything yet, but keeping myself up with liquids. I'm experiencing the full package of side effects, as described in your posts. Even holding water down is an every-day's challenge for me ... however, I tried low carbon mineral water today and I finally got the feeling that my stomach started to work (at least I have started to belch :) !)

Anyway, the nights are the worst, I hope I can finally get some sleep tonight, without vomiting! :raincloud:

Tomorrow going to see my doctor, to check if everything is going well (she is a bit surprised for my lasting symptoms, she probably hasn't read your posts ladies :)) So, I m quite an optimist for tomorrow.

I m starting this journey being 343lbs, and 5'10 tall.
Last 5 days have taken 11lbs away ...

Thanks again!

Cheers ;-)

Welcome usapadora, well done for getting through the last 5 days. I am 9 weeks in tomorrow and I have 2-3 bad days a week where I'm bloated uncomfortable - my stomach actually goes rock hard. My consultant says it's when the balloon drops so I have to push it back lol once I do that the nausea stops almost instantly.
11lbs down already is a great start. Onwards and downwards
x

Welcome usapadora and well done getting past the initial few days sounds like u having a similar time to me it does start getting easier. Good luck with your journey xx

I had my balloon fitted on 12 th November so still early days I've lost 27 lbs in total. My weight is fluctuating recently I think maybe as I'm eating more solids so having to be careful

How is everyone else doing??

Hello, Usapadora! Welcome to the group! Great job on your loss! Things will get better, I promise! It just takes a bit for your body to adjust.

I had my 12-month balloon inserted on Oct 12th, I've lost 30 lbs since then (well, I was just on vacation for 3 weeks and gained 2 lbs so I guess my loss is only 28 lbs now). I'm going in for a re-fill this coming Saturday... Bit nervous but excited about having more restriction again and kick-starting my weight loss. I'm 1/2 way to my goal and hope to be there by June.

Hope everyone has a great day! I've been up since 4am, damn jetlag!

Whenever I read a new ballooner having such side effects, I feel did everything go right with me since I did not have any side effects, like at all!

Had mild discomfort initially but now I am good as ever.... do you think it might affect my weight loss ... ????

I need to ask one more thing like how big is your balloon, what amount of saline does it contain? My doctor filled 400ml but he said if weight loss comes to an halt he may increase its content to 600ml or even 800ml.

thanks for your replies :)

Hi Soumya,

Our bodies all react differently, and the amount you have in your balloon is reflected in how easily you cope with it. Except for a few days of discomfort, I've been virtually side-effect free. People who had side-effects seem to have lost the same amount as I have but in half the time. My weight hasn't changed in quite awhile and I've never really had restriction. My balloon has been a really expensive reminder to watch what I put in my mouth. I have 500cc in my balloon and am going up to 800cc on Saturday. I think with the 6 month balloons they give you more fluid as it's less time and can't be adjusted. I also think the fill is a bit of a ploy to get another 2,500 Dhs out of my pocket. Either way, the balloon is only a tool and not a miracle and it's up to you to make the right choices in order to lose the weight. Good luck!
