It is as much a 'struggle' as you make it really. Your provider will give you advice on what you should be eating pre-op and post op. There will be time for you to find the restriction that will help you to fully utilise your band - everyone will be different. You need to fully commit to making lifestyle choices - eating a well balanced diet and exercise are vital - as in any weight loss surgery.

The 'struggles' come in dealing with the issues that led to weight gain - and only you know what they are. They apply to anyone who is contemplating or has had weight loss surgery - not just to people who choose or are advised to have the band. You have to understand and come to terms with those. Any weight loss surgery is a tool. You have to be prepared to work with it.

Just my thoughts.

Hi Maura - and :welcome2:

I think whatever surgery you have, you would have to work with it, whether it be a band, bypass, sleeve etc;

I would advise that you read as much as you can on the gastric band before having your operation. It will give you peace of mind and help you recognise that if you work with it, it can make a huge difference.

On the lap band threads on this forum we are working to help, support and encourage each other on a daily basis, those that want to can do a food diary to help them keep on track - with a weekly Saturday weigh-in.

You will also find that the people that have had a bypass or other surgery are offering the same sort of support.

The whole site is about befriending, guiding, supporting and helping each other, through the good and also more difficult times.

Most of us have had struggles of some kind whether related to the surgery or for other reasons, but we help each other through those times.

You will make a lot of new friends on here, as well as find lots of help and information.

:)Good Luck with your surgery hun and try not to worry x

Love Kat x

Am going back to basics this week. Liquids today.
Need to see if my pouch is playing up or if I've just stopped listening to my body re feeling full.
Spoke to Jezabelle yesterday as she is with same provider and that will be something they recommend if I speak to them, so thought I would pre empt.
Wish me luck :)

Have a great day everyone xxx

kel what a tough time...surprised u didnt knock the nurse out! haha.... i took my daughter in when she was 7 weeks as she had fever and they kept her in...obvioulsy wasnt prepared for that so had to ask them for aptamil ready to drink milk but the nurse was HORRIBLE..thankfully day staff were nicer but that was one of my worst nights ever...turned out to be just viral infection but as she was so young they just wanted to check.

TB i totally get u....reception staff seriously think they are medically qualified and they are the gate keepers! its a hassle getting past their arrogant backsides! making me rant as well! haha
