February 2015 Surgeries

I had complications and had to go back to theatre, also couldn't even swallow sips of water without bringing it all back up. All I kept thinking, what have I done, all that money, just take the bloody band out etc. However, I am now 12 days after second op and the difference is amazing. It gets better every day and this bit is only a minute part of the whole journey. Try not to get despondent, I know it's hard but then so is the option of carrying around all that excess weight for ever....

Thank you all so much. I slept most of today and am getting better. Thank God the retching stopped but lost my voice - does not bother me.
I am at home now a d getting better. I find warm drinks better for my tummy so managed a small cup of soup today, and little bit of squash with hot water.
Thank you all, you are very kind.

Hi glad your feeling a bit better,it's always better at home. I enjoy hot drinks better than cold, before I loved both the same as some foods, I found out this weekend I can have very spicy foods which I loved before. I had some sweet chilli sauce with my lunch today and I felt like my mouth was on fire but that is how it goes. Just take it easy don't rush anything just do it at your pace. Don't get annoyed with yourself just go easy and remember if you can't eat something today you might be able to eat it next week, just give it another go if you cant then leave it alone but don't get upset it's just one of those things. :)

Way to go Tules.. Your tolerance for foods will only increase. Go slow... Let your inners heal. Have liquids /pureed food / soft food as advised by your medical team. Remember your inners have been operated upon and they need to heal.... Spices and chillies are not going to help you in the recovery... Whereas yogurts and curd will be relatively easier on the tummy. So go slow and take hints from your system... Wish you a speedy recovery.

Pain is... Weakness leaving the body... Cheers and Regards... Kaps

I have got to point out that I am 21 weeks after operation and I was not suggesting that you should be eating spice end chilli, was just an example of how my taste buds have changed. Of course you should be sticking to the foods that are on your teams list and all the different stages.

I have like savoury stuff so am having soups, Lighter Life veg soup which at least has all the nutrients. Had a little plain yogurt too. I guess it counts as liquid once in mouth because it was on my lis.
One question, is there danger expanding stomach with too much liquid? I can drink, say egg cup size soup, less than 5 min. Is this too fast? I am taking tiny sips but frequent.
Any advise appreciated.

It sounds ok to me I was told to drink a straw full at a time and leave a bit of time in-between each sip. You can damage the pouch if you drink,to much but I think nature will stop that happening because you won't want to drink,to much. But just in case you can don't over do it. I can only now drink half a mug of tea during the day the hotter the better but at night as my last drink of the day I have one of those very large man mugs and I can drink the lot but I couldn't do it during the day. Which is strange but that's how I am don't fret just do what feel comfortable to your body but remember to increase the amount because you will get dehydrated.

Thanks Mouse, one sip per straw is a good guide and I will leave gaps in between as u suggested. I was sip sip sipping in that speed.

Yes better to be slower maybe Tina. I have pain when, I think, liquid reaches top operation my stomach. Maybe it signals smaller sips - although I am using tea spoon for soups.
I guess it will take a while t o get used to new stomach.

Hey Tules.. Was advised to 'Sip sip sip... All day long '. Initially I was told to have 30 ml every hour during the first week and slowly build up to 60 ml per hour by the end of the second week. Keep yourself hydrated. Your body will give you a signal if you are drinking too fast or too much. You mustn't feel too full. Have fun losing weight...

Hi Alison. I had a bleed after my band and is still not quite right. Felt very despondent and p$@&d off after spending all that money but keep your chin up as all operations can have complications. I'm in your area too so have the local knowledge.
