From Fat to Fit sleeve Diary

Hey Lisa
I am doing ok but not great. About a month ago the bad habits started and I included rubbish in my diet meaning that the amount of cals I was eating shot up. Today is day 2 of trying to get back on track. It's hard as habits are life long and this new way of eating is just that, new. I have lost 52lb which is great but I am also annoyed that I had several weeks of low losses when I should have had decent ones. Anyway, onwards and upwards eh!

How are you doing, looking good I see. I can't believe it's been nearly 4 months since we started our LRD. Where has the time gone? Christmas is only 3 months away and we are slimmer than the last few years... It's gonna be great!!!

When do you expect to hit your target? Mine is Apr 6th, as long as I stay focused.

Take care xxx

Well done lisa your doing great keep up the good work

Hi Hun

Overall you're a success story through and through. Like me, you may have to face the difficulties like head hunger and that emotional feeling when you just want something nice that's off the list. I have those moments and I just try and accept that it's part of it. When I go in Neros I have a hot chocolate but I don't have the cake. I still feel the need to have a treat but I'm in control.

I have had weeks where I haven't lost a pound, but then I just look at what I have lost overall.

Let's be honest here, we wouldn't have lost what we have without having our surgery.

You're way on track to lose the weight and for that you should be so proud. Keep going Hun. You will do it. You are very strong and determined.

I think I will hit my target on or around May 2016. If not I will just keep going until I get there.

I'm having a B12 tomorrow and so I'm hoping my energy levels go up a little to get me through this.

This time next year we will be skinny chicks!

Take care and keep posting X

Hi Lisa,

Would you say that you're on a normal diet now, just smaller portions or are you struggling with certain types of food..?

I trying so hard to imagine what it's like actually feeling the restriction of a sleeve but I guess you can't until you're in the losers bench..

:) x

Hi Hun

You must be counting down the days now? I'm so pleased that your life is going to change and you will be feeling fab/

Yes I can eat more or less anything I like now. The sleeve just restricts my intake quite a lot. It's very hard to describe but it certainly works. I eat a bit of everything round my plate so that I get all the nutrients. With some foods (particularly high protein) I get fuller quicker.

The head hunger is difficult because you may really fancy something but then your sleeve says NO after you've had a small amount. I don't feel deprived though i am feeling full of life and so well.

Hope this helps. Exciting times ahead :) xx

Oh Lisa, I can't wait..!

Keep smiling like a demented nutcase, but I'm pretty sure that it won't be long until I'm sick with nerves again.

The day I got my date was a shock as they said Dec but then rang with a cancellation for Nov in just 3 weeks I felt sick..!

Xx

You so deserve it Claire!

At Worcester Royal, they really do look after you. Karen will come and see you on the ward just after you get back from theatre.

I also think that there's a good chance you will be first on the list as you're diabetic. You will probably be done and dusted by midday. On my night of admission they came and gave me a Clexane injection and I had a hot chocolate with a sleeping tablet as I was a bit restless as you can imagine. The next thing I remember was being woke up at 7.30 by one of the female bariatric anaesthetists and one of the nurses who was measuring my legs for the DVT stockings. Then Mr Robinson came and said he was aiming to do the sleeve unless the scar tissue prevented him from making the keyhole incisions and this was the case he would do a bypass or revert to the open procedure. I had to sign to agree to the plan of action. He said he thought that he wouldn't have any problems in any event. They told me I was second on the list, but the time went really quickly. I was listening to my tunes and when i looked up the theatre nurse was ready to walk me down. When I got to theatre the staff were lovely. I was really nervous and whilst they were prepping me for the anaesthetic, a lovely nurse was sat to my left holding my hand. She told me to imagine all the lovely clothes I would be wearing in a couple of months. They put me to sleep in no time.

When I woke up I was comfortable and they were giving me liquid morphine. Mr Robinson came and told me that he did the sleeve and all went swimmingly. They took me back to the ward really quickly.

It won't be long before your telling your story at one of the weight loss seminars. I haven't been invited to one for ages so j might ask Karen if I can attend the next one.

Speak soon Hun. Xx

Very very pleased with myself today. Following some recent blood tests, I've been told that I am no longer borderline diabetic, I don't need to take my blood pressure meds and my thyroid levels are better, which means I can reduce my thyroxine dose.

Hope you're all doing ok xx

Hi Claire my love.

How are you and how's the LSD diet going ? I bet your on countdown now!! Trust me these few days will fly by. Just hang on in there and it will be here before you can turn round.

Yes I'm over the moon!! It's a great feeling Claire. I am starting to feel like it was all so worth while. It's amazing that I'm only three months out and I'm feeling so much better on myself both physically and mentally. I am enjoying myself so much as well because I am going clothes shopping with my daughter and I'm no longer petrified to try things on.

Take care VA xx

I'm trying so hard..!

I'm doing the milk diet as I just can't hack the Slimfast. I'm struggling with Bovril, but forcing it down.

I have to say that I've been feeling quite horrible but this evening I feel a lot brighter. May be I've turned a corner, but I won't hold my breath..!

I'm feeling hugely nervous/anxious but excited too. I guess that everybody feels that way..

So happy to hear you doing so well. Definitely life changing..!

xx

You're doing great Claire :). Better than I did anyway lol. I couldn't cope at first as you know, but then I found that things settled down a bit. Keep up the good work, it's so worth it Hun.

I also got all worked up about the LSD and how much weight I lost, then they never weighed me on the night of my admission!! The anaesthetist got my weight from my notes.

I did ask Mr Robinson when I came round after the anaesthetic, if my liver had sufficiently shrunk and he said that it was fine. What a relief that was!!

Take care VA xx

Violet- thank you for sharing your experience. Can I ask about how exposed your were on the day of the surgery? I'm worried about walking to theatre, lying naked on the bed while they operate and being out of it.. Do you remember anything about that? How do they preserve people's dignity?

hi Hun

I wasn't exposes at all in the day of my op. They gave me a long blue and white theatre gown to wear which was tied at the back. . They then told me to wear my own underwear. I also had to wear a hat as my hair wasn't tied. I was wearing theatre stockings too which help prevent DVT. They wanted me to be as comfortable as possible.

When I went down to theatre, I also had my own dressing gown on over the gown and I was wearing my own slippers. The theatre staff took these from me when I arrived in the anaesthetic room. They then sent them back to the ward. When I was being prepped for the op, they asked me if they undo the ties at the back so that they could get access to my tummy and also to put some heart monitor stickers on my chest. I had no problems with this as they were very discreet and nothing was on show. I never felt that my dignity was compromised in anyway. Then they covered with me with a blanket as I was cold. I felt very comfortable and it was all fine. They then proceeded to put me to sleep really quickly.

Don't worry about it because you will be fine honestly. Xx

Marz - they do care about dignity. I wrote a blow by blow account of my surgery day on my diary if it helps: http://www.wlsurgery.com/wls-diaries/159941-sundowns-mini-bypass-diary-3.html#post2869092

violetangel thanks so much, that was reassuring to read. So from your post I imagine the lower half isn't exposed is that the same for the chest area? From pictures people post up one of the incisions it's quite high up.

Sundown. Just read your post that was that insightful- thank you- I'll be reading the thread next. :)

Below your tummy isn't normally exposed but your chest is.
