Help!!!!

Just had a call from my dietician....she's very concerned about the extent of my weight loss and wants me to double the food I'm eating so my body doesn't go into shock!!!

NEVER DREAMT SOMEONE WOULD TELL ME TO EAT MORE!!!!!

The dietician said that to me on milk diet when I lost quickly. Even tho I carried on as told I never lost more as body re configurered itself to losing zilch for the rest of the time grrr

OMG I think this is the most weight I have EVER heard of someone losing! I can't believe short of chopping of a leg off (or two) that this could even be possible. Ceecie I read you went to CHP under Mr El-Hasani - I too will have him for my bypass on 15th Feb. The diet sheets he gave me say post op you stay on the liquid diet for 4 weeks. Many others seem to be on it much less. Is this why you have lost so much so quick? I'm so excited for surgery now!

Can't wait to see your post op pics, maybe you can't see it in yourself but the difference must be amazing. Congratulations at doing so incredibly! X

If it helps hun, I was similar :) Lost about 3.5 preop, but then 3 stone in 9 weeks post op. Think it has to do with being heavier. Do try and up food if you can, but I was given the same warning.

Hi Georgie, thanks! I stayed on liquids for a week or so then started thickening up to yoghurts/soups etc. I'm on normal diet from today and looking forward to crunchy bran flakes tomorrow!! BUT my diet has progressed much quicker than others who had surgery at a similar time to me. I don't really understand why, but I've been able to tolerate foods like egg, steak, pork quicker than the diet sheets suggested.
It's really important to keep in regular contact with your dietician to check what you are doing is ok. We are all different and it really is a personal journey but you will be offered lots of advice and reasurrance from everyone on this forum, they are all great!
As for El-Hasani.....he is an amazing surgeon and will keep you safe at all costs. He is a bit cold to start with, but don't be put off.....he spent a long time on my surgery and persisted at giving me the bypass rather than the sleeve as he knew I needed the best result possible.
Also, my scars are TINY, I've had no pain, no vomiting and my tummy does not gurgle like many do. The staff at Chelsfield are hilarious! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, as did my visitors!!
I really do hope your experience is as positive as mine. I'm not going to lie....I've been pretty ill a few times and am convinced it was due to low immunity, so REALLY look after yourself and make sure you take all your supplements religiously. It's been trial and error....but touch wood at 9 weeks I'm now coming into an easier phase.
Good luck and keep in touch! Xxx

Thanks Yve....I kinda assumed its because I started off so heavy and realise it is going to slow down considerably. I understand her concerns.... But feel I'm eating sensibly and enough to sustain a healthy weight loss. I'm not great at snacks, so will try to add a couple per day from tomorrow.
Do you know what happens exactly when your body goes "into shock"?

How are you doing anyway? Any more pics? I love looking at them, you're a legend!! :) xxx

6 stone loss ladies....that last stone was a lonnnnng time coming!! X

Wow wow wow just seen this :) good on you. As long as you feel well, keep smiling :) xx

Thanks for all that info Ceecie, I know I will come to rely on the advice that you and others have given on this site. I'm so pleased E-H is doing my surgery and whilst he is to the point and on the blunt side I know he is the best surgeon for me and already I just adore Sheila! So glad to hear you so positive about them, feel even more secure in my choice now :) xx

I lost really fast in the first month. Slightly slower in the second and then it was pretty steady. Six months was when I had to really start working for it. By shock I suspect they mean the body will stop dropping for a while and stall.

Couldn't agree more with you, dr elhassani did my bypass 6 months ago, and him and his team are amazing! Love Sheila and iching! They're totally hilarious!

:) I don't think they actually realise how many lives they touch in a profound way. I will always be grateful.....and if it weren't for I Ching's attitude I wouldn't have started this process in the right frame of mind!! How are you doing 6 months in? X

I'm doing so well, ive lost 5,5 stone, which is 30% of my total body weight! I'm now the lowest I've been in 10 years, and feel much younger, happier and healthier! I've got just under 1,5 stone to lose!

You're doing really well too!

Hi Anne
5.5 stone in six months is great, even better that you should have only 1.5 stone to go! I'm still baffled by these losses and changes. I worry that I will be the duff one, the one it doesnt work for. Used to failing diets by now. Congrats to you and lovely to hear that you too had such a good experience with mr e-h & the team at CHP. Do either of you ladies go to the support group there post op. If so, have you found it useful? x

You'll do great, honestly! It's very unreal to finally lose weigh, but it feels amazing! I do t go to the support group, as it's a bit far for me, bit why don't you try it out, see if it's helpful? Are you a private or nhs patient?

I'm going private. I went so many times to my GP in hope that he would refer me to nhs but he never did and I was too embarrassed to ask outright. I don't have any health problems related to my weight so not sure if that's why I wasn't referred although I do have an under active thyroid. But now I'm way to impatient to wait for the referral process anyway, I just want it now, like yesterday! If it wasn't for the fact that I have my daughters birthday coming up, I'd have booked a theatre slot in even sooner that feb 15th! I'm going to Santorini in August and I'm really hoping & praying & wishing that I could be 6 stone down by then. My weight just makes me such an outcast, I've had enough, hence the impatience! X

Lol don't worry, it's lovely to meet others who were treated at Chelsfield by El-Hasani!!

I totally understand the worries of being the "duff" patient!! I've lost 6 stone and still wonder if that's it!! I can't really comprehend being under 20 stone to be honest. I was 30 stone 4lbs at the beginning of my journey.

I strongly believe this forum is essential for info, encouragement and support. There really is someone willing to answer any queries any time of the day and you get so much inspiration from reading others diaries. Also, questions are answered that you hadn't even thought of. It's very reassuring to know that you are not on this journey alone. I barely need to contact my team these days!

What provider did you go with?

I had to go private also, I had been trying to go through the nhs for 3 years....my funding was available in 2010 and then suddenly dissapeared when the PCT was juggled around!!!!
I didn't have any medical conditions either and they were literally waiting for me to get diabetes/sleep apnea etc. Very cheesed off to say the least.....
I'm so glad I flipped and paid for it myself. I'm also resigned to the fact that I will have to pay for cosmetic surgery on my arms, breasts, tummy and legs....so no holiday this year and save, save, SAVE!!! Luckily my partner realises that this is essential for my health physically and emotionally, so the pot is definitely at my disposal bless him.
I constantly surprise myself at my determination and focus. I've never put myself first, so feeling that personal sense of pride gives me satisfaction like never before. And where has my food addiction gone??? I can't believe how reliant I was on it....and how detached emotionally I am from my oldest friend that is GALAXY!!!!

:)
