Is it lunch time yet?

Ok drinking issue...does anyone else drink Oj from concentrate because it's the only drink I actually enjoy enough of to have more than a glass of in a day otherwise I just don't drink. Defo think I'm going to have words with my doctor because I know it's not normal to drink so little and I had previously been the same before the op. They keep telling me how important it is but it makes no difference I'm still on around a ltr a day and that's if I'm lucky. How can I survive on so little if it's so important it's never on purpose and I try really hard even tried setting alarms. The only thing brings it to light is if I see it written or I'm told about it. Am I just plain crazy? Hubby swears it's what causes me to be tired and the headaches but I don't feel unwell or dehydrated maybe just a little crazy then maybe lol. Xx

What's your wee like, if is pale then you might be ok but if any darker than lemon juice in water your not. The bad heads will be from lack of drink. Could you eat ice lollies because that's getting in fluid and a different way of doing it I had loads in the first few weeks only way I could increase my intake. I know if I haven't had enough to drink I start to get a bad head but after a mug of tea I'm ok.

Dark wee is a sign of dehydration, it should be very light. I used the rowentree lollies because of the different flavours. You need to watch your intake also if your taking medication. How about having a lolly mid morning set your alarm and just like taking medication eat one, then have as large a drink as you cam manage to wash it down, a bit of mind set ( medication then cleaning your teeth) once you get into the habit it might kick in, but your organs need fluids to keep them healthy and I know being told won't change how your mind is working. It's about trying to shift the way your thinking, is there a reason as to why you don't drink. I know a friend of mine who never drank outside her house because she suffered with her bladder and was afraid she would ( again) embarrass herself by having an accident. She had an incident at work and was so embarrassed she left the job but she found that if she didn't drink during working hours she didn't need to go to the loo so problem solved? I just wonder if there is a deep reason for your reluctance to drink, I'm not suggesting for a moment you have my friends problem. It might be your parents or teacher had a part of the problem ( if there is one) but you need to not stress about it just try alternative ways of getting fluids in without making it an issue for you. Like I say try it as a medication and you depend on it you never know it might work. I'm doing this with sweet things I remind myself about how bad I felt when I dumped you'd be surprised how quickly the thought of eating a naughty soon goes away :)

Cheers hun...I really don't know why I have these issues with drinking I was always punished with food. I can manage to take a few sips but then is starts to hurt and I mean physical pain just under the diaphragm so have to stop but to be honest this drinking thing has gone on for year and years. I can't abide water at all so started with NAS juices before my op and that seemed to help but not anymore. It's not that I don't have a choice either as there is always plenty of choice in our house. My hubby is a yorkshire man and a big tea drinker and that's like a never ending stream he always asks if I want coffee but then I look at my drink and say no because I still have mine at the side of me never finished and if it's not Oj it will still be there the next time he asks. I know this orange has a lot of sugar in but it also is vitamin c so that's not bad I think at least I want it to be lol. I just don't get it at all even though my team says drink drink drink why do I find it harder than losing my target weight for surgery. Pft oh my good job I ain't depressed at the min at least I can see the problem. Good job I like the Orange or I would be in trouble. Xx

Imagine how fantastic the loss will be if you could manage to up your intake...... 2ls a day my dietician says :) i struggled big time in the early days, a sip here and there, i felt i was always forcing myself..... now it goes down as easy as it always did pre op..... how about trying fruit teas, peppermint, camomile... lemon tea??? of course check they wont make you dump ...... wouldn't want to make you ill ..... i have got a great trick now a 500ml mug 1 after breakfast 1 after lunch 1 after dinner and another in the evening..... a couple of hot chocs before bed and i'm done :) i don't do water either... hate it lol dont do tea or coffee either so hot nas vimto for me :) keep trying tho hunni you need fluids :) x x x

Cupid. I have never managed two litres a day ever. I'm more like 2.5 pints max. I fret about it something terrible after surgery. Now I drink what I can and have developed strategies to help. I eat yoghurt with a cup of tea. I know were not supposed to eat and drink at the same time but I figure the yoghurt is turning to liquid on the way down. I have an Atkins bar in the evening with a cup of tea. That gets me about a pint. The rest I get in by always having diluted juice beside me when I'm working. I have bought these wee mini cartons of diluting juice for when I am in the office or pick Lindsay up from the pub and get a tap water? I can just squeeze some into water

I discussed it with my dietitian. She did not seem overly concerned as this has been a lifetime thing. The reason I worry about it more now is I suffer with constipation post op if I don't get fluid in. Where as in the past I could have a drink in the morning and go till evening without another

But if your feeling poorly with it you need to try a bit harder. A wee something in your mouth to make the drink less wet. Or some ice lolly ad a Bear said

Thanks for your kind words ladies I promise to try harder.

Had a really busy day again today. Watched hubby eat breakfast and complain that he didn't get a cooked one...went shopping for him new clothes as he cant wear his builders stuff so needed new ones for work. £150 later and he decided he wanted KFC so sat and watched him eat that too oh and complain that it wasn't a 16 boneless box with 4 lots of fries 2 sides and popcorn chicken (hard life) more shopping this time for grand children's christmas bits. Went to take our grandchildren for tea as a special treat to McDonald's and he needed a double cheese burger meal but a large one because he needed to eat with them so they didn't eat alone (new one on me lol) so sat and watched him eat that but this time I tried a cheese melt and they are the size of a 10p. Yep you probably guessed it didn't go down well so gave up half way through. We then called for ice lollies to try eat them to increase liquids and some NAS drinks. So all in all hubby's day off was eventful for him even though he's badly done to and I'm trying to starve him. lol men are so weird at times. :)

Good day today as discovered morrisons pitta dippers. Like mini pitta bread and one is still a bit too much but made a turkey breast slice (Bernard Matthews) sarnie. Seems like a lifetime since I could eat any type of bread and because it's easiest meal for me I missed it big time. Well no more says I well chuffed. Drank more today and had melon which I also found is easier to eat so on the up for sure. :)

You're right men are an entity unto themselves keep telling mine in the next life he's gonna be a woman then he can feel what all the fuss is about and the only reason women nag. He doesn't get that we moan because they cause it and that every meal doesn't come with half a loaf of bread. I ain't coming back as a male though I like being able to multi task ;) huge hugs hun enjoy your day xxx xxx

Hi Ladies.
I've only just found this forum today.
I'm waiting for a complete bypass with Dr Sedman at Hull. My operation is due in the next 4-6 weeks. Been waiting since 2008 to find a supportive GP to forward me for surgery and finally found one. (I tore the cartilage in my right knee in 2008. I was crouched down, and when I stood up, my knee split open the wrong way. OUCH!) For 5 years I was constantly told by various GP's & Dietitians that I was overweight and under-exercised. No sh#t Sherlock! What did they expect with a busted knee at 30 stone?
Anyway, things are heading in the right direction now, and I've just got back from my latest appointment with the Nutritionist at Castle Hill prior to my op'.
I hope you don't mind if I tag on and follow your thread.
Wayne.
