My journey starts here..

Blanderbird

I had my band fitted about the same time as you, 28 Sept.
I had my second fill on Monday and can't eat hardly anything.
Fluids are OK, but food - a definite no no. Tried toast, a wrap with salad, a jacket potato and they all got totally stuck and I have been sick a lot.
So far I have 5.5 in a 10ml band.

I spoke to THG yesterday and they suggested going back to fluids and mushies.

I know I want restriction and also my main goal is to lose weight but I am starving!!
I am hoping that things will improve as I am loving the fact I have the restriction but did not think it would be so drastic

Just noticed..you had fill Monday you should still be on liquids till today then Mushies...maybe that's the problem :/

I was told one day of each on my first fill, 2 days of each on my second and back to one day on my third. I tend to go for 2 days, give everything time to settle.
Hope things settle for you soon!

Sorry should say Friday not Monday!!
They say 24 hours liquid and 24 hours mushies.

So, started eating solid food yesterday, how are you feeling now Banderbird?

Yep, I really noticed the difference after my second fill, and I'm on 5.8 in 10ml.

(I laughed at Blanderbird!!)

Hmm I'm OK, just struggling with what I'm eating during the day. I ate some Ryvita too quickly for lunch today and was sick for the first time, yuck! Not too badly though - I just slimed a bit.

I'm now pretty hungry again in the evenings, and it's getting easier to eat at that time, so I do think things are settling now.

Anyway, I had a call from the dietician today, and she had some good tips.

She said it's very normal to struggle with food at this point, and it WILL settle down. She said as you have fills, it takes longer and longer for the band to ease each time, until you don't need any more fills.

She also said hot drinks before eating can help 'wake up' your oesophagus - and it's especially good before breakfast as it all relaxes onto the band while you're asleep. I did not know this! Oddly enough I HAVE been drinking my tea first before breakfast in the mornings, and it does help.

Not sure if I'm losing much weight though, I might weigh myself on Thursday as that will be two weeks after my fill.

Anyway, it's all trial and error at the moment. I'm enjoying being less hungry though, especially through the morning.

Oh no, what if I can never again eat ryvita? Lol!
The info from THG did say that breakfast might be tricky when you have restriction, but warm drinks would help. Hope you get to grips with it soon hun x

^ oh. I either didn't read or forgot that bit :ashamed0005:

Anyway, I didn't know why hot drinks helped, so at least I do now.

Cheers Sarah, I'll get there. I've just had a nice salad with tiny cubes of cheese and a spoonful of coleslaw for tea which went down well.

Haha, fill day for me so milkshake for brekkie for me too.
Tesco have relaunched their own brand slimfast-equivalent shakes, 4 for £3. Some lovely flavours (though bear in mind I've not tasted them so they could be vile) - banoffee, vanilla fudge, chocolate and cherry, rhubarb... It's not a fry up, but hopefully it will make liquids a bit less grim!

I've had a few sips of my shake but I not hungry and my tummy is sore. I feel very full and it's hard to differentiate between swelling and filling if you know what I mean. I'm frightened of stretching the pouch.

Though I've not eaten since Saturday and fluids are meant to slop through, I imagine the sensation is the swelling.

How's your cold today pet. X

I remember it well hun, took me hours to drink one shake, by which point I was heartily sick of it... x

Cold is a bit better ta, though now my nose and lips are bright red and very sore. Ah well, worse stuff happens!

How are things today banderbird?

Kleenex Balsam tissues are your friend - and vaseline at night.

I also use Otrivine spray at night or I can't sleep.

Anyway I'm glad you're feeling a bit better, hopefully it'll be gone by Monday.

As for me, things are settling down now, the band has eased slightly and I can eat more. The Ryvitas went down much better today.

Hunger has returned a bit, but nothing like it was before.

It was interesting to experience restriction for a week or so, so now I know what I'm aiming for. Somewhere between that and where I am now!

Haha, I know! It was only a couple of weeks ago I was stressing over not being able to take in enough calories. It was a fleeting sensation, but it was amazing to feel the band really do its stuff for that brief period.
Fingers crossed the sensation lasts after this fill for us both! x

Red zone??

Still plodding on. Definitely eating less now, and still struggling with some foods.

I'm not in the red zone because liquids and some soft foods go down easily. Also, I've noticed if I don't eat enough protein, I do get hungry more quickly.

Last night my brother cooked an absolutely gorgeous tartiflette served with green salad .. and I just couldn't eat it.

Salad was fine, but all those heavy potatoes with bacon .. nope. I ate the tiniest bits and waited and waited but it just wasn't going down :(

Anyway, he did a home-made apple crumble with vanilla custard for pud, and I ate it all!! It slid down (yep, slider) wonderfully.

I have to be careful not to go for the slider foods though, I just hate taking ages when I'm eating in front of other people!

Hunger is still much less which is good, and it doesn't take me much to feel full.

Chicken/heavy food/bread seem to be the things I struggle with the most.
Hi can I ask what you mean by the "red zone" please.
