November 2013 Surgeries

I have started my multi-vitamins as they told me to after 2 weeks and they have gone down fine but I'm not having any protein shakes, I do think I might get some protein powder to add to my meals as I have heard that the more protein you have the less likely your hair will fall out.

I had a skinny latte and that was fine, didn't bother with sweetener as all though I have always had a sugar in my coffee I am not keen on the after taste of sweetener so just had it without. I had 2 wholegrain crackerbreads with dairylea light for breakfast ( worked out it was about 80 cals!) and was fine, not so confident about having bread/toast yet.

I work for myself and have been working from home but have popped into the office the last 2 days and it is nice to start feeling more normal, yesterday was the first day I didn't have a nap but I was in bed by 9!

Everyone needs to recover at their own rate, I remember reading you went to a craft fair a few days after your op and I was thinking I could never manage that and certainly didn't feel up to it. Maybe doing that much so early and your body not coping scared you a bit and now you are worried you will feel like that again if you go out.

I'm pretty sure you will have a lovely surprise when you get weighed again, and yes I think liquids do help with the weight loss and the more you drink the less your body feels it has to retain. It does feel like a bit of a minefield doesn't it trying to fit everything in and remembering it all. I am glad I had it done but do wish to be able to be 'normal', not stuff my face but just eat small portions of regular stuff and not feel hungry. I wanted the sleeve as I think you can eat more normally with it and don't get dumping syndrome but my surgeon advised me against it and said the bypass would be much better, I did what he said as he is the expert but in the back of my mind I am always thinking the sleeve would have been easier - I guess the grass is always greener!

Yeah im supposed to take my vitamins now. Told 2 weeks too. Took them on monday but found it difficult to swallow the big one even broken in half. Got stuck in my throat because im worried of gulping drinks down. What protein powder would you take? I have no idea where to start!

The toast I had was soggy because the butter had melted so it wasnt really crunchy. Slimey lol but went down ok.

I put myself back I think going to the craft fair on day 4! Im going shopping tomorrow and will try to walk round there. If I can't ill have to jump in the trolly! Lol That will be my first bit of exercise since op. If it goes well ill be able to manage more and more :)

Im guna buy me a water bottle tomorrow and draw on the outside with times so I know to drink so much every hour. All ive had today is a pint of milk and a coffee. I should have had way more! Just tucking into real chicken breast. OMG. This is sex on a plate. It is DELICIOUS! Managed about 1/2 a mini fillet so far and 1 home made chip. Got a pint of nas squash next to me so ill finish that before bedtime :)

The sleeve may have been easier but is the bypass a better option for you? I have a sweet tooth and would have chosen a dessert over starter/main anyday! Having the bypass means I cant do that anymore so I wont be having the empty (but scrummy) calories. I duno, im finding it ok atm. Ive not been out socially, I think that will be the hardest thing.

Im so glad I have leftovers. Means another tasty lunch tomorrow lol and protein in the chicken!!

Just heard Kim has been up walking about and had a shower. She's back on the general ward. Has nausea and wind pain, but getting there slowly. Fantastic news Kimberley lets hope the nausea and pain go soon. X

Try centrum chewable vitamins. I'm on 2 a day been taking them since day 3. They are quite tasty!
Can't believe you're actually eating proper chicken already! Any repercussions? X

I got my GP to prescribe me 2 months worth of forceval. It's only on prescription. its the only soluble vitamin and mineral you can get in England. So work out £7.80 for 60 tablets.

Nicola, nope, nothing bad happened at all! I chewed it til there was hardly anything left and ate it incredibly slowly. Finished when I was satisfied but not completely full. It was the best thing ive tasted in a month! Its the same consistency once chewed as soup and in tiny mouthfuls too. Just feels better putting chunks in my mouth than puree, which I end up eating quicker anyway!

I shall try and find something like the chewable ones until I can manage the proper tablets. If I can get it on prescription even better because I dont pay! That would be really helpful :D

I was going to get this protein powder
Soya Protein Isolate Powder | Sports Nutrition | Holland & Barrett
you can add it to anything apparently and it is meant to be tasteless, I know it doesn't replace getting protein from food but it takes the worry away if you know what I mean.

Well done on the chicken, how did you cook it - was it in sauce? I had a nice dinner, 1/4 of a lamb grill with a few baked beans, like you said it's just great to put something solid in your mouth and chew!!!

I know the bypass was the best option for me, I would graze mainly on crisps all day and then have a mahoosive dinner, definitely favouring savoury, I didn't have control on my portion sizes and was very rarely full, could eat a massive dinner and then an hour or so later be grazing on crisps or crackers.

Feel so much better in my head today, eating nice food but having control over how much I eat, long may it continue!

glad to see all those on loser bench are doing well still hope you all keep up the recoveries and good work

It wouldn't replace necessarily but boost the amount of protein ingested? My mum had a point earlier because I said how I couldnt afford to buy that... that we're saving alot on our food bill as it is and if it stops me going bald lol.. which is true!

The chicken was baked in the oven and had a garlic & herb breadcrumb topping. No skin, no added anything else. The homemade chip lol was pre boiled potato with a light drizzle of oil and chunky sea salt. It wad bloody delicious and the best bit is there is enough left over for another 3 meals! Yummy :)

People take one look at me and dont believe I used to only eat 1 meal a day. Id skip breakfast and lunch but have a big blowout meal followed by dessert if we had something in. I didnt have a problem with portion size. My problem was putting my body into starvation mode and then eating big which meant my body absorbed everything :( Chocolate (when we could afford it) was my weakness though.
The 1 mesl a day thing was over years and then the PCOS became apparent after the birth of my son, lost alot of weight and then ballooned enormously in the space of a year! Went from a size 18/20 pre pregnancy down to a 14/16 & then suddenly from that up to a size 22/24 top 26/28+ bottom :( :( :( and there Ive stayed ever since.

I too feel more human now im not eating baby food but I am worried I could be doing something bad to my insides. The texture is no different to blended food once swallowed but I do feel guilt putting small chunks in my mouth :(

Thats really good! Fingers and toes crossed that you are germ free now! My son was ill the week before my op and I was selfish and kept him off nursery on purpose so he wouldnt catch anything else to pass on to me. I know thats not possible with school though. You need your own sterile bubble for the next 3 weeks!

Ooh ill have a lookie. My son needs some stuff. Saving up for a whole new wardrobe for me if I lose the weight!
