November 2014 Surgeries

Sorry for my woe by me moan...especially as some of you are struggling and have other stuff going on but needed to get this out there - I should be pleased as its weigh in tomorrow but all I am is in pain now...I hurt all over the left side of my stomach, had it all day but work occupied me, now I'm just in pain...I'd aliken it to the pain just after the op from the wounds...not sure what it is or if this is normal either, so gonna try and get some sleep and hope I feel better in the morning.

Hello everyone

I hope you are all well. Thank you for all your kind words. They touched me very much. Sharona I am so sorry that I upset you - it was not my intention. Things are bad but I am alive - and when this passes things will be better. Vixter thank you so much for your kind offer. I managed to speak to someone yesterday and I need to get some evidence together so that they can fully advise me on my options. It is going to be a rough ride and probably cost me what is left of my life savings - but this is now a matter of principle for me and I will need to decide whether I let them do this to me or let it go and move on - if I can get another job.

Well everything is progressing to us moving next week so I may not be able to log on while I get the internet etc sorted. It feels really weird - I have lived in my present home for 28/29 years. I am dreading the packing tomorrow - some of my family is coming to help - but I have decided I am going to be ruthless about it and only what needs to move with us will be packed. In the new year when I am up to it I will come back and start the big clear out. I feel my dad with me strongly at the moment. I know he is getting me through this.

I cannot believe what I am doing to myself. I have had major surgery but I am carrying on regardless in the hope I am not doing major damage. I feel ok - I am struggling with how much I am consuming. Yesterday I managed an actimel to take my meds, a cup of tea, a protein shake, one black coffee, some tomato soup - which thankfully stayed in and a few sips of water. Not nearly enough. Once I have had something I feel full and cannot even manage sips of water. I am hoping it is still swelling from the surgery that is the cause of this. If this feeling of fullness continues to the next stage I think I am really going to struggle - just the thought of it fills me with dread. I know I keep saying it but it has really taken me by surprise how different this feels from the band.

Anyway before I end up crying again I better get my day started. Have a blessed day all.

TBx

Hi Vixter,
I've had exactly the same thing. Was a bit of a surprise to get new pain after most of the surgery pain was getting better. For me I now exactly what did it. I'd had a ton of firewood delivered before the op and had managed to move half of it. Covered it in bits of plastic to stop it getting wet and left it. BUT I couldn't stand seeing it everyday and finally a week ago decided it had to be moved! Not smart. I pulled something horribly. I saw the Augean last week for my first check up and she said I probably pulled the stitch - apparently there was one big one under one of the scars. She checked for a hernia and said it was fine. In fact said keep up the good work! More movement is better apparently. Not sure if that will help. Did you do something similar?take care.

Hi maggy,

After speaking to the nurse on the phone and checking for any lumps etc we finally come to the conclusion that it was from my dumping incident on Monday night and I had strained. I should be ok in 1-2 days and if not to go to gp. Feel a bit better today so all is good xx

Hope everyone is well on their way to full recovery.

Can I ask everyone's opinion of post op diets?

Do you follow slimming world, weight watchers, calorie count or low carb.

I'm really stuck on what to do? Atm I'm using mfp and aiming for 1200 cals. X

HI Maggy pleased things are picking up, hope you get some good news on your dad.

HI T B Really sorry you are having a bad time at the moment, I also think everything done for a reason.
Have you rang Acas they help with employment situations, Phone No: 0845 747 47 47 they really helped with my husbands last job, and got back all money that was owed to him. Also the citizen advice on the employment part really helps, its worth giving both a ring.
Good luck with your move.

HI Vixter please you are on the mend.

HI SHARONA you might be last on the list, but first in our hearts.

Hope you all have a good weekend. xx

I had my bypass on the 26th too. Xxx

I'm still here lurking but if I'm not sure what I'm feeling.

I got summoned to gp as I'd requested liquid meds but had to see a different gp for an on-the-day appointment. Oh he was horrible. I explained that I'd sent in my hospital letters and prescription request and he said they were wrong; I don't need liquids as he had another patient who's had the op and they were always on tablets. Anyway, he agreed to do some (reluctantly) but chemist had to order them in. So I'm without at the moment.

I had my bypass 2.5 weeks ago and I'm disappointed that I'm 'only' 13lbs down. How?! Out of 18 days, I've had extreme diarrhoea for 14 of those days. That alone would lose more than that in others.

I started on slop a day late (thurs) and had 1/4 of a microwave lasagne mashed up (only couple of tbsps). Oh that was so nice. I've spread that out over last few days.

Today I had 1 weetabix with hot milk for breakfast, half glass of yoghurt drink for lunch and trusty lasagne for dinner.

What worries me most though is that I'm not sure I'm feeling full. I'm only eating what is suggested as I'm not feeling hunger (only head hunger) but I'm not feeling amazing or that I'm losing much. Just now I made a large glass of NAS squash (photo of glass) and within minutes, I'd finished it. How does that fit in an egg sized pouch? Have I broken myself already? Have I gone through all this for nothing?!

I'm reading others who are struggling to drink or move from liquids. In a weird way, I envy them. I'm sorry to sound off, whinge and sound ungrateful but I'm proper fed up and sad :-(

Hello. I am sorry you are having a rough time. I think the first few weeks after the op are so hard. Your body has been through major trauma and we are all going to react in different ways. I am struggling with liquids in that I am full on 250 ml and I then do not feel like anything for hours. My provider has a regime of drinking something every hour - I have tried and just end up feeling sick so I do not force it. Today has been terrible mainly because I have been running around trying to sort things ready for the move and packing up. I had an actimel to take my meds. A cup of team at about 6 pm and then forced myself to have some soup which was about an hour ago and I am feeling sick. I have taken my night meds with a bit of water. I thought about having a protein shake before bed but I think that will just be asking for trouble. Just not getting in enough protein and that is worrying me. I envy you being able to get liquids in. I do not know what to suggest about the volume you are able to take in - perhaps have a word with your team and see what they advise?

Sorry you have had a bad encounter with a crap GP. I do not think they train them in bedside manner these days!

stay strong - it will get better.

Hi hun,

I had my op on 26th and bypass too.
I too have no issue with liquids - although I do burp a lot lol. I have read a number of people are not feeling restriction on liquids so I'm hoping nothing wrong. I think once you're on solids the restriction will kick in but I also have these thoughts of have I ruined myself!!?
Try not to worry.
In red to weight loss that's great! How much do you weigh if you don't mind me asking?i keep having to remind myself of two things. 1) I've just had major surgery! My body is still recovering and probably panicking about what's happened to it so will more than like be holding on to every calorie to enable my body to heal. 2) I didn't put this weight on overnight - it's going to take a while to come off!
I started my pre op at 29st 4lbs - today I weighed 24st 13lbs
I lost 4 stone on 7 wks pre op. The less you have to lose the slower it will come off.
Try not to worry hun you are fine and doing great.
Roll on solid food!! (I've got another 10 days of liquids boo hoo lol)

Big hugs xxxx
