POSE Surgery

Thanks Eastbruce,

I do take zinc and Vit C but not sure if it does anything:needhug:

Anyway, on a positive note I feel a tad better this morning and still have 3 days to go, so hears hoping.:)

Just wondering how you are feeling Von? :patback: I'm hoping your cold has abated enough for you to have the procedure - only 2 days to go! :flowers:

Any better today Von?

Hope your fighting those bugs and keeping them at bay hun x

Love Kat x

Hi Kat,

I've awoken this morning feeling a lot better thanks, mainly as I slept through for the first time in a week. I'm definitely coughing far less now.

I'm hoping that this time tomorrow I'll be even better and will be able to pass muster with the anaethetist.

If you hear nothing from me tomorrow, you'll know it's good news.

Thanks so much for asking after me.

xx:)

thinking of u von..hope all goes well tomorrow :greenapple::greenapple:

I phoned the hospital this morning and told them I was still coughing but as it doesn't appear to be a chest infection, they said to come in and the likelihood is that if my chest is clear, they will operate. Not looking forward to a sore throat as well as a cough but I'd rather go ahead for a few days discomfort than wait another month.:sigh:

good luck for tomorrow Von ,will be with you all the way x

Thank you. It's lovely to know you are all routing for me.:)

hope all goes well!! von has defo looked into this properly.... eek...how exciting!!

Well everyone, I'm safely back home.

Everything went really well and I had 12 anchors. I was 2nd on the list so went down at around midday and stayed the night. Apparently the first person on the list went home as a day case and it was touch and go as to whether I would be a day case.

I have had uncomfortable but not terrible trapped wind (stomach and shoulder discomfort) which has been the only problem. No sore throat though and no sickness from the anaesthetic, so all in all a good result.

I think they must be using something new for the throat pain although I didn't find out what that was. Anyway, I went to theatre coughing but came back not coughing , so whatever they did to the throat meant that I had a good night (also thank goodness for earplugs). I had to sleep on my back because of the trapped wind but slept right through. DIdn't even hear the nurse coming in to do my obs!!!

I got home at midday and have been moving around for the wind and then went for a doze and slept for 3 hours.

I've just got up and had half a glass of slimfast.

That's it for now, but just to say thank you again for all your best wishes. It was great knowing I wasn't doing this alone.

Von, sooo glad to hear your home and that it all went well, thats you well on your way to a slimmer healthier you .x

awesome von!! will defo be glued to this thread to see u transform into ur slim self!!

Oh Von, I am delighted to see you are home and doing well. I had checked earlier today and was getting worried that we hadn't heard from you.:angel09::clap::angel09::clap:

So, no sore throat - would like the secret because everyone else has a sore throat for 2 or 3 days. :flirt2:

The air is very uncomfortable, but it will let up in a few days. You had 12 connectors - there are some people who had as few as 6. Does that mean he made your stomach smaller or have you had a chance to talk to the surgeon yet?

Keep us informed !!

Congratulations on the surgery Von and welcome to the losers bench. I hope you are taking things easy.

I have found this thread very interesting and informative. Congratulations to all of you who have had this procedure and I hope it brings all you hope for.

tranquil x

Hi there,

Still very tired but mainly because of the trapped wind waking me up and my cough is still bothering me a little but hey ho, it could be a lot worse.

I'm trying to keep moving and taking the mint tea and anti wind tablets. I'm sure I'll feel a whole lot better once that's all dispursed.

I think it was the aneasthetist mentioned something about the throat business as the first few had complained of really bad throats. They must have come up with some sort of prevention....maybe numbing? I certainly had a good 24 hours of not even coughing. This morning I am coughing once again and can feel something throat -wise but more a bit like a lump when I swallow but certainly not painful at all.

My husband has been delegated to give me my daily shot of anti clotting. I'm not good with needles, so thank goodness that's just for 3 days.

Funnily enough, I was very calm about the whole operation and went up to theatre quite "collected". However, when these injections were mentioned on discharge, I went into a cold sweat. :cry:Daft isn't it?

I've managed a chocolate milkshake and a few cups of tea so far today.

That's it for now but I'll keep you all updated.

By the way, how are you doing?

Glad you are doing okay Von!

Hmmm, you not only don't have a sore throat, but they gave you anti-wind tablets?
Sounds like I should traveled across the Atlantic for my surgery LOL.

I am still suffering with stomach problems and belching terrribly. The doctor gave me a prescription for Reglan, which did help, but the side affects were too much and I had to quit that medication. I see him again next week and am hoping he will order some tests to find out what is causing my problems. I don't believe POSE is the cause, rather something wrong with my pancreas.

He put me on a 1000 calorie diet, which I started on 4 days ago, but have not lost any weight. I've had less than 800 calories each day too. Luckily, it doesn't take much to fill me up, so the diet is easy to follow and I don't spend much time being hungry.

I agree with you about the needles - good thing you've got DH to give you the injections :p:p

Hi Eastbruce,

Sorry your still not right. There's nothing worse than having a windy, belchy stomach is there?

I had to laugh though, as I sent my husband out very early this morning for the anti wind tablets. I didn't get them from the hospital but the local supermarket. Mindyou, I cam home with bottles of medicine for just about everything else. I have a tablet to take for a month for anti acid, liquid paracetamol, anti sick medicine and the injections.

I forgot to answer your query re the number of connectors. I did ask the surgeon but he said that 12 was a fairly normal number, so I'm none the wiser on that front.

I was wondering if 800 cals is too low for you? Could it be putting you in starvation mode? I have read on this forum and elsewhere that you lose less weight if you eat too little. I'm no expert but might be worth looking into this? However, the positive thing is that you aren't having difficulty eating so little, so the surgery must be working.

I hope you get something sorted for your wind.

Take care.

You may be right about the starvation mode - so I will eat some ice cream tonight to bring the calories up!

POSE definitely does work to reduce the appetite and you will feel it too as you start to recover.

The doctor insists not over 1000 calories a day, so I will try it his way for a week or two. If it doesn't work, I will do it my way. He's not exactly slim either.

Hope you sleep well tonight, that's important for the body to repair. :zz:

Sounds like you've got an angel of a husband. :p:p

Well, I had a better night last night and although the wind discomfort got me up just a couple of times, even that has imoproved greatly.

Yes, Eastbruce, I do have a gem of a husband but don't tell him I said that.....lol. He gave me the last shot this morning (with a gleam in his eye) and although I made the usual fuss, I didn't actually feel a thing.

So it's onwards and upwards now.

I hope you enjoyed your icecream last night and that it starts shifting that weight for you.

well! still doing ok, although today i had the worst case of constipation ever, even had the sweats and shakes and though a hospital visit was imminent, anyway situation now resolved but think enoughs enough of yoghurt and soup..
