Yes I will doeskin to them tomorrow. Also I asked Mr Sufi if I had to fast before the op and he said no.
I wonder what happens at Southampton Spire?

If you are the first of the Poses's to be done at Bushey Spire, then it sounds like someone's mad an admin mistake and given you duff advice, as presumably all the other wls they do would normally require a pre op diet and go in laprascopically (might get to spell it right one day!!).
As you say, check with them in the morning.

Hi everyone, im having pose done on saturday morning without any pre op liver shrinking diet, having it done at bmi alexandria hospital in manchester at a cost of £7950.
good to hear you got a date von, and welcome to east bruce look forward to hearing about your progress..

hi

Hi

von, congrats on the date, it will be so exiting.:)

about the price, i have found it between 7900 and 8500 pound. in nuffeld leeds its a little lower, but hey have at bmi limit so i cant have mine done there (my bmi is 30-31) i still think it at bit over expensive... comparing with bypass and banding. that i can get for 6000 pound a lot of places (belgium, germany, denmark etc), and that includes 3-5 days at the hospital, includes flight, and stay 2-3 days after at a hotel. and support afterwards.

but im gonna pay it because it is the best solution and the with less risk than the other surgerys.

bruce, so good to hear from you. looking forward to follow you, and already wait for your next update :)

i hope to have a surgery date in the next couple of days, and i hope that it will be in march.

i write time and place as soon as i know it.

Duffy - when you say that there is a limit at BMI do you mean that you are too light for them?
Has anyone else been told there is a pre diet in case of laparoscopy?

susu, yes. at nuffield leeds they told me they only do surgery on people over 35 in bmi.

but have seen the pose been recommended down to a bmi at 28 other places.

stillbig

wish you best of luck saturday :)

then it must be Mr Anselm Agwunobi thats going to do your surgery ?

have you asked him how many he has done before ? is the americans going to be there ?

did you talk about how many "folds" he is going to do and how much smaller the stomach gets ?

did you make the appointment trough the alexandria hospital or trough Surgical Weight Loss Clinic ? its quite difficult for me so find out how it works in UK, i can se allmost all the Doctors has 1,2 or 3 clinics the operate in. (in denmark a Doctor always only is on 1 clinic and dont work private in other companys)

Congratulations on your surgery date Stillbig!
I am five days out of surgery and today, all the surgery pain is gone and I haven't used any pain meds for almost two days.
But the terrible belching seems to be worse and definitely the diarrhea is worse. I went for a walk this morning and did not make it back home in time - guess I will be doing laundry today. :wave_cry:

How much is 7950 in USD?

hi duffydk , yes mr agwunobi is my surgeon. I dont think he has done any before but yes the americans will be there, i did ask his nurse who assured me that he has performed numerous gastric bypasses, and sleeves, that pose will be a minor op...glad you got all sorted with a date...

Well done Duffy. Bet you're glad that it's all sorted. Amazing that it will be so much cheaper in Greece and Germany. How many times will you need to come over apart from the main procedure of course?

Eastbruce, glad that you are pain free. Shame about the upset tum. I wonder if that is a side affect of POSE or the fact that you had the hernia repair done as well? I do hope it settles down quickly.

Stillbig, a walk in the park for these surgeons ? Let's hope so, as the Americans will have been and gone from Leeds by the time I get mine......

Dear Von
The question I forgot to ask is how life is long term with pose. We read a lot about bypass and band post op where they have to avoid coke and cannot drink with food. What is your understanding of post pose? Ive left this query with Mr Sufi's secretary so will tell you when I get info

Thanks so much for the update.
As you can see, there are a few of us now that look forward to hearing about your progress, no matter how small, although you must be really pleased so far.

I guess the weight loss will certainly be greater in the first month or so as your stomach heals along with having to stick to the liquid/soft food diet. However, half a stone and a belt notch down is still weight that you've lost, so that must make you feel really good.

You seem to be coping well on the eating front. Will the hospital be offering dietery advice over the next few months or are you left to make your own choices? How do you think you will approach eating....in other words, will you really try to make healthier changes or just rely on the restrction to cut down your previous consumption?

I hope you don't mind me asking this question but I'm interested to see how we all decide to approach our eating post POSE.

I assume you have coped being back at work and feeling ok now?

Thanks again for the update.

So far I'm trying to make healthier choices, perhaps because I'm still restricted to softer foods maybe. I certainly don't intend to eat bad food every day, but I don't think a weekly treat is too bad, I suppose it depends on how much weight I am loosing and how I feel about it.

Hi Susu,
I think I would be more worried about not joining in at social events or on holiday if I had had a bypass or a band. It strikes me that all we shall be restricted to is a smaller portion.
When I think about slim friends, they usually eat a lot less than me ie, when I go out to eat at a restaurant with my daughter, she rarely has a starter, may not finish her main course and eats half to two thirds her pudding. She is a healthy size 10/12. I always envy her portion control but more to the point, no one sees her attitude to food as anything but someone with a smaller apetite and perfectly normal. In fact, if I have the pudding, I know I am the one being greedy. I hope I shall be doing the same as my daughter in 3 months time.

My consultant also said up to 50% excess weight loss which for me is 3-4 stone. I also want to lose more but as he says, they can only quote on the averages achieved by the patients in the US. Well, I look at it that an average means some have lost a lot and some lost a lot less. I hope to do the former but like you have worries that I may not. Anyway, I'll give it my best shot but if I was only to lose 4 stone, I will still be 4 stone lighter than I have been for several years, will still have more energy and be healthier.

Sorry to have written so much but in a way, it's quite therapeutic to do so........lol

My research and my surgeon both tell me that this POSE is ideal for about 3 stones weight loss. Remembering that there isn't too much long term data!

Having said that, it does depend on your diet, the type of food you eat and how much. You can't just rely on the POSE to do it all!

£8500 is too much!

Hi and welcome
I have been quoted £8500 at Bushey spire to include all support after the procedure for one year. I was told that includes dietician , surgeon, support group .
Have any of you been quoted a figure like this ?
I don't think the hospital has been publicising Pose yet as they are only starting this month. It will be interesting to be one of the first . There are some videos on you tube with people who have had Pose and the reduction in appetite and cravings seems very similar to lap band and gastric bypass without the side effects and invasive surgery.
Sx

£8500 is way to much, considering I paid for the same thing at £6800 at Leed Nuffield, with top notch service and after care. The Americans were there too.

Hi and welcome to this thread. It's really great to have another post op person on here.

Have you been put on the 4 weeke liquid diet because of the hernia repair or is that the normal proceure after POSE in the US?

Do you know if 10 connectors is the norm? Did the surgeon give you an idea of how much smaller your stomach is now?

I Hope you get over the discomfort of the hernia repair soon and look forward to hearing of your progress.

From what I've read the max is 12, minimum is 6. My doc said they stop adding the anchors once they've think the size is right. I had nine anchors placed in me, although the doc said my stomach wasn't really all that big.

My BMI was 33 according to the doc, although I though it was 31. I had my surgery done in Leeds!
