There you go then!! I suppose actually that is about the right timings. Maybe they know your PCT automatically funds if you meet xyz criteria, and so they've made the appt in plenty of time. Makes a change for them!!! Usually your pre-op is no more than something like 6 weeks before an op because the results of the pre-op tests have to be current when you have your op (eg the MRSA tests). So perhaps you'll be having your op within 6 weeks of that!!!

Sorry to keep banging on about Sues case, but Im from the same PCT (BEN) and I know that funding has to be applied for individually for each case as I specifically asked about this at my initial appointment. Also, Terri and Angela are both under same PCT and there case was dealt with individually by the PCT as well.

It could be possibble that they have made the pre op appointment pending funding - but if so then the procedure is different from when I attended the hospital just two weeks earlier to Sue and is different to the procedure that all previous patients of BEN PCT have gone through to my knowledge.

SOmething doesnt add up. Either Walsall have changed how they deal with things, or this is like an initial appointment that you have been sent again Sue - or somehow you have been fortunate enough to jump to the front of the funding queue.

Hi, Sam,
I'm under Sandwell PCT not BEN. Not sure that this would make any difference, though (although that could explain why Allie's paperwork was different to Terri's - Allie is Sandwell as well)

Sue, I've just read this back and it sounds like im being really harsh - I dont mean to be. The whole bloody system is so confusing. But if Lesley has told you its a pre op - then it must be a pre op.

Sorry for getting on my high horse and I'll shut up now lol

Hi, Sam,

Sue, that might make ALL the difference. Sorry, dont know why I though you were BEN PCT.

Hopefully Allie will come online soon and confirm. It could well be that as a Sandwell Patient you are able to be put straight on the list. Dr H said that some PCT's he can do that, but couldnt with BEN as all cases treated individually.

Ooh Im excited for you now SUe. I do hope that it is the case that you have gone straight on list. xx

Hi Guys, Sam what does BNE stand for, I know its Birmingham something?
It may well be your pre op then Sue if Lesley has said this twice now, who knows, I guess you will find out when you go!
I don't think I went straight on the list from my first appointment, I'm sure it was after, as I had to ring up to accept the open procedure and was then told I will be put on the list. My very first appointment with Dr Hartland, no one else just him on his own was August 21st and my op date is February 22nd. So it has taken exactly 6mths for mine to all go through. Everyone all seems to be different though, so who knows. I think if you allow yourself to think 6mths as a basic time scale it wont be far wrong. x

my pre op letters came with a covering letter stating "enclosed are 2 appointments. These appointments are for my pre assesments prior to your impending gastric surgery." It then goes on to explain that the 1st is a nursing assessment and if these come back ok then i will see the consultant anaesthetist who will be the anaesthetist who will put me to sleep on the day of my op and that he only has a clinic on tuesdays after his theatre list.

The next 2 letters are headed pre assessment clinic and give details of the dates but they both ask for a gp patient summary sheet although i only need to bring it to 1 appt. hey are both signed by the pre assessment clinic sister Liz Allen. Hope this makes a bit more sense than just saying 3 pages long.

I have just found my journal notes from after my appointment and dr hartland did say that my pre op would be with in 4 weeks of seeing him. I have never had to confirm whether or not i agree to an open procedure maybe that is what the cooling off period is for an this appointment could be to replace the phone call allie had ?

Hi Terri, I only did cuz I had a letter from Dr Hartland, telling me that Sandwell will only fund the open, even though he told me that it would be a laproscopic procedure. It said in the letter, that my case had been looked into with great detail and that the decision was made for the open, due to expense. He also said that I could appeal, but in his opinion, It would only delay me being put on the list, as the chances of Sandwell changing their minds was almost non exsistant and to ring him with my decision. So thats what I did and was put on the list from that. x

I have been told the same about BEN but have never been officially informed of this and it was said at my first consult that it would rest with the pct as to which i had. I think walsall procedues are absolutely shocking and something needs to be done about it cause we have all had slightly different experiences. I understand that every pct works differently but we are all having the op done in the same blinking hospital and it just makes me so annoyed cause hat whole waiting thing is bad enough let alone the not knowing what will spring up next Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Lol I know chucks, the waiting is awful! :faint2:

Hi wlwb I am with sandwell pct and I was not put on the list till my funding had been agreed it took nearly 2 months for me to find out whether it was accepted and my letters were just like terri's I am sorry Hun but I don't think it's your pre op Hun I think it's like the appointment I had after your intial appointment u meet mr khan on his own and he goes through ur funding papers and then he puts in ur funding I am sorry if I am wrong but this all seems abit quick bab the process is alot longer xx
