Allergic to food and immune to diets: my gastric bypass story

Oh thanks Neen,
It's not as bad today, but I've only had yoghurt so far and am taking my pills one at a time. I'm scared to say I'm fine too soon! I have taken Senakot hi fibre when I was constipated, but will have to give the teas and squats a go. I'm carless today so will have to nip out tonight to get some tea. I don't really eat a lot of fruit becasue I like the crunchy stuff. Went to a fruit and veg shop on Monday and fancied everything I couldn't have so I bought the raspberries as a treat. I never realised that fruit and veg shops would be such a torment post op!

Hi Sara

So sorryu you are having alot of discomfort, I have found if i am not sick, i have the Runs sorry to sound so blunt...... I feel alot of discomfort, but once i am sick it eases......... it is horrible, if i try to eat of an evening, i then end up in awful discomfort all evening....... it is horrible.... sorry can't give any advice as i am struggling too... i suffer really bad with wind, and trapped wind, never been so bad, i cant find grip water anywere it is a nusicence.........

Well done on that weight loss..............

Hi Sara

, i cant find grip water anywere it is a nusicence.........

Hi Mandy, I got my gripe water from my local tesco but not where I expected to find it at all - it was not in the pharmacy bit but in with the baby stuff, you know, baby bath, soap, cotton buds etc - try that - I have found it a godsend!! (Sorry to hi-jack Sara, but have to do these things while I think of them!!)

Hi Mandy - I also got my gripe water in the baby section at Tesco... I asked at the pharmacy counter and got pointed in the direction of the flavoured water lol but I ignored that advice! x

Well, I'm a lot happier today folks.
Having eaten at least 4 tablespoons regularly and 4 times yesterday, my belly felt almost normal by the evening, apart from the pain in my right side. Stepping on the scales this morning, I have lost another pound!! Yipee! I have no idea how because of all the eating i did, but I'm certainly not complaining!

thats great Sara, your progress is amazing - thats over 2.5 stone gone forever now!! Well done and glad you are feeling happier xx

Thanks Ali. I feel like I'm back on track and feeling a lot better for the first time this week. I would definitely disagree with people who say that weight loss surgery is a cheat's way to losing weight after this week! It is not just a case of sticking to the rules, but trial and error. We can't get it right all of the time. I realise now that even at almost six weeks post op my bidy is still adjusting to the changes and I am still learining!

You are right Sara, it is by no means an easy way out. There are lots of changes both physical and mental for your body to adapt to and there are lots of lessons to learn - which we will all keep learning together by trial, error and advice sharing!! Still glad you are feeling better x

DEfinitely Ali. I got home tired today, but then made myself what felt like a feast for tea. Instead of having the usual, where I can only have one type of food on my small plate, I made a very small new potato and topped it with a spoon full of egg with reduced calorie salad cream and finely chopped onion, a spoon full of beans and sprinkled low fat mozzarella cheese on top. It was just slightly bigger than my usual 4 tablespoons, but had lots of different flavours. The new potato skin was soft and almost not there so it was easy to chew. It was delicious and I loved it!
There is life after a gastric bypass!!

Hi Sara,

Sorry to hear you've had a bad few days! I'd give the benefibre a go, it is quite expensive but I got a trial size pack of 7 sachets in boots for £2.99 to give it a try. Anything to avoid bowel problems!

Thinking of you x

Shel

MMmm that sounds delicious Sara - I will be storing that one up for when I can start eating again!!

Today has been a great day. I met up with Mandy and the family for a meal. She is lovely, even lovlier than she seems! She looked great and her hair was really cool. We both had children's jacket potato with cheese and beans, but we should have shared one between us because we eat much less than half each. I;m now going to have a few minutes to myself before I help out at an African fund raising dinner. Obviously, I won't be eating a lot!!

Glad you have had a fabby day Sara, that will help give you a boost, and how great to be able to meet Mandy too!!

Hello everybody!
I had a busy night last night at the African dinner. I was helping prepare buffet food, seving food and clearing up. I was absolutely shattered and smelled od food when I got home. It reminded me of my waitressing days! To be honest, it was nice to prepare normal food for a change. I had some pasta, potato salad and a piece of garlic naan bread when I had a few minutes to myself. I felt far too full with the garlic bread, so I'd better steer away from bread for a bit.
Today I've been helping Gordon choose a car instead of his motorbike. Nothing special really. Then we nipped to IKEA to get some cutlery. I use far more forks and spoons than knives now and they all seem to have disappearred so I took action. Even if I can't buy lots of food I can buy cutlery!!

Glad the African dinner went well! I am soo jealous of you having an IKEA nearby - my nearest one is miles away and I could spend a fortune in there (oohh, on second thoughts, probably that is just as well lol)
Hoping you have another great positive week this week x

Hi Ali,
I was pleasantly surprised at how close IKEA is from here. There's a sale on too, so I bought a few other bits. Sorry to make you jealous! Lol.
I am starting this week by spending most of tomorrow waiting for my new washing machine to be delivered-joy! At least it will mean that I can begin to wash the piles of dirty washing that's built up since the other one broke down! So all in all I'm hoping to have a productive and positive week.
