August 2014 Surgeries

Doing really well, had my follow up appointment this evening with Mr Mannur and I have been told to start exercising twice a day. Stickers healing although still quite sore. I have lost a total of 19 pounds, so really pleased. I feel quite well a d want to start driving but I have been told two weeks so roll on Friday. I am glad that you are feeling better, I had a peppermint tea every day for a week and that helped with the wind pain or you could try chewable windeze they are supposed to be good. Xxx

Were you at Homerton? X

Welcome to the losers bench. Rest up x

Glad you are home shell!! Good luck with the recovery

Welcome home!!!!

Glad everything went as well as can be expected!!! Look after yourself and I can't wait to hear how ur getting on xx

Thanks all. Finally got some good sleep last night - 10 hours! - and I'm feeling much more human this morning.

I need to prepare my injection of blood thinner soon, that's the only thing I'm dreading! Ugh.

So far everything else has been good, surprisingly so!

I did have some raised inflammatory markers in the bloods they took before I was discharged, and they want to see me in a week. At my pre-op, they were ever so slightly elevated (I put it down to a tooth that has an issue but the dentist wasn't concerned about), and my GP didn't see a need to see me, but yesterday's bloods showed they'd almost doubled. Hoping it isn't much of anything...

Don't worry too much about inflammatory markers. Mine were 190 when I left hospital and should have been 5, I was on anti biotics and monitored by my gp. They went down after 2 weeks x

Thanks for that, it is reassuring! I need to go back to clinic next Thursday to see where they are then. They didn't give me any antibiotics, but they weren't as high as yours, they were about 12 when I was at the pre op a month ago, and were I think 26 or 27 yesterday. The doctor on the ward wasn't really concerned, but wanted it followed up.

Crossing fingers they go down by Thursday!

No I wouldn't be concerned at all Hun. Mine are generally around 25-30 just on a normal day lol. Let me know how you get on

Well I'll be off to the Support Group at UHCW later. I've been going for a long time now, this will be the first post op. :D It'll be strange as to be honest I don't feel that different. I'm drinking OK, managing soup (clear / no bits), felt a bit of pressure when swallowing at first but it's fine now. OK, 6 extra holes, bruises and 28 clips are a bit different!

I don't know if anyone else has found this but my sense of smell is now very sensitive, things that smell nasty really do make me feel nauseous and things that smell rather good I can smell from half way down the road

So I should be on the losers bench now but weight has remained the same since op so will see what happens over the next few weeks. My body does it's own thing wobbling up and down so this is no different.

Hope everyone who is waiting for their August dates are patiently going through the pre op diet - be good :innocent0002:

 Congratulations to those who have managed to get through the OP

Hi bluewoo..glad all went well and you are doing good! Ive had my pre op and now count down to the 26th...keep updating on your experience, its really useful and reassuring.

We're on the losers bench, we're just waiting for the losses to start!

I had my op on Monday, and I weighed myself this morning - I'm up a kilo over Monday morning. It is OK, though, our bodies have been through quite a trauma, and they're holding on to energy stores in order to heal. The weight will start to come off soon enough!

Oh that's a shame, it may only be a week but you will have been all prepared for lift off!

Yeah this is true, it's a bit of a nightmare childcare wise as I had arranged for them to go to their dads for 2 weeks, but they'll be back on 7th as they have school on 8th! Still they are 13 and 10 now so can mostly do things for themselves.

Also my mum was going to stay with me when I first come home from hosp but she is on holiday that week! She said she will cancel it but I've said no.

Will I really need someone with me all the time? I will have lots of friends and family popping in to check on me.

Xx

Ahh there is a Mr Mannur at Homerton :)

It's the same doctor,at Homerton i think he only see NHS patients and at the Spires it is private patients. He is an excellent doctor, really pleased with the care I had at this hospital. Where did you have your sleeve and who was your doctor?

I had my op on Monday, turns out I was in theatre for over 6 hours as they found problems with my liver that will need to be followed up. Prof. Rubino and his registrar Ilieana were amazing and all but one bank nurse at Kings were fabulous, can not fault them at all. Came home Thursday. Not had any sickness but the trapped wind ! ! ! ! Trying to get up and about as much as possible, but finding 5 minutes of mobility needs half an hour of rest lol. Not sleeping too well as never been able to sleep on my back, so most sleep is taken on a recliner chair. Wounds are a little tight and sore today, but that is probably as sign of healing. Refusing to get on scales till at least next weekend as know you can actually gain wait after an op.
Hope all who have had their op are well and the road to recovery is a smooth one x x

Wow, I hope all turns out well for your liver issues!

Glad to hear you're on the mend, just take things slow and sip loads. I had my op on Monday, too, and my wounds are tight and sore now, too. Definitely healing in progress.

Keep us posted on your liver issues, please!

hope all goes good with the liver problems , sounds like everyone in the august ops are doing really well, got mine the last day of august ...all the best x

Tranquilzone how are you getting on with your sleeve??
Everything going well, I had an appointment with the nurse yesterday to check my blood pressure which has reduced dramatically and I am see my GP on Wednesday to see whether I still need blood pressure medication. I was weighed and I have now loss a total of 10kg (22 lbs), however I now need to start exercising. I have never been good with exercising, as I have bad osteoarthritis in both knees my options are limited. What is everyone else doing about exercising?

I am using Palmers skin therapy oil with vitamin E everyday, rubbed onto my stomach which is helping minimise the scars.

Wishing all well to those who have just had their surgery.:)

Hi tranquil!! Oh great that all sounds positive, ive got some bio oil for my tummy. My plan is to get walking but if your knees are knackd sounds like swimming would be good, i know sophia hit the pool pretty quick. I was told no gym for a month after the op.
