Of course everyone should follow their dieticians advice! Yes we all have our own ways but when people are struggling or not losing maybe not closing your mind to a different approach / experience could help?!

I too have a variety of foods but chose veg and fruit as my carbs. I gave up bread rice and pasta at pre op stage and wont ever try it again. So I havent had them with or without good restriction. I could always take or leave bread but rice and pasta were my downfall - even more reason to not have them.

For what its worth, today I have had:

B - smoked salmon and egg white frittata

L - skinny latte, was still very full from breakfast

T - smoked tofu, grated carrot, pepper and mushrooms - stir fried with soy sauce and some sweet chilli sauce

I wasn't really being close minded Mazza.
Sometimes I feel totally bombarded by information about gastric bands and some of this information is very subjective and some of it is evidence based. Its hard to get my head around having had surgery, let alone coping with everything else and what I really forget is the thermodynamics of it all- ie energy in has to be less then energy out to lose some (or all) of the body fat and that can be done in many different ways and excluding different food groups is one way of reducing calorie intake. I had hoped to do it by just reducing volume- hence I chose a band.

Your success is to be applauded and I can only hope that I will be as successful- with or without bread! :)

Hey I wasnt saying you were being, sometimes people who are struggling (again not anyone specificaly) benefit from a different experience - thats what I meant x

We are all in this together - so anyway I can ever help, you know where I am x

I suppose if people are struggling then something is going wrong somewhere. My nurse told me yesterday that she didn't think my 'head was right'.... well she's right in some ways but she also has never had a band so doesnt really know what true restriction feels like either.... its this damn elusive 'sweet spot' that's causing my obsession at the moment. Hopefully the 0.5ml I fought for will make all the difference. I really think that she thinks I want a really tight band but she is sooooo wrong! I just don't think that being able to eat the volumes I can is correct. I can feel everything sloop straight through and its making me very frustrated. (Sorry for burbling!)

Thats true NO ONE knows what having a band is like unless they have had one.

Dont worry too much about the sweet spot, you are doing the right thing taking things slowly. You will get there but - and please take this the right way, things that sloop (like that word) through the band now probably will with good restriction too.

I bet your not eating as much as you think and nowhere near as much as you could pre band? x

Good day...BAD evening....
B) 2 oranges
L) 4 rice cakes with houmous and ham
D) pizza + Apple crumble with low fat custard... bad bad girl but I am glad I confessed it

Sorry if this is hijacking a good thread but.....
you're right- I'm not eating as much as pre-band but my argument with my nurse was that after my last fill I could feel full....I could feel that tight feeling after a few mouthfuls of protein and if I waited a minute I could feel it go through and then eat some more but this had gone over a 2 week period. On the weekend before my fill I had 'tested' portion size so that I had some evidence for them to sanction a fill- I had a roast beef dinner in a restaurant-ok the roast beef was slightly tough but it went through ok- I had half a large dominos pizza- I had a big ham sandwich with crisps-..... ok, it was less than pre-band but it was still large portions. She was horrified that I had even tried to eat more....but she missed that I was trying to prove a point!!
But she relented. Its been great since i've had this small fill- and at the moment is making a difference to my hunger levels. Long may it continue but I really had to fight for it but I won't be doing that again- I felt totally drained when I left. I've got a 14ml band and I'm now only up to a 5.5ml fill but we'll see how it goes :) Again- sorry for burbling. x

This thread is all about what we eat so its not hi jacking it all.

To fill or not to fill is a tough one, the bariatric nurse should be able to tell from what we are eating but it is also wise to be cautious to avoid over filling.

This doesnt help much I know but you are doing really well - keep the faith! xx

I just popped on here to get an idea of what to have for tea and am amazed at how little people eat! Oh dear!
maybe I do need another fill. I can eat a proper plateful of food no problem and Iam often tummy rumbling hungry between meals.
I wont be adding my food diary here! Although, I'm doing okay weightloss wise, could be faster but I'm fairly happy.

Dont worry Karen, I used to eat loads more than this too but still lost. Its only when I stopped and wanted to lose some more that I had another fill and could no longer eat as much x
