Afternoon folks!
I foolishly soaked some bread in my soup and thought it would go down! It did but not without giving me pain and a jolt that there really is a band in place!!

Work tomorrow ;( but routine will do me good!

With the help from my new family - 2011 will be great (yes that's all of you) :) xx

I started with some soup in my bread last night, didn't feel anything and ate the while ciabatta! I can't believe it! Just totally lost control like I used to and didn't feel the band once!

Tuna tip for Piratess :D

A small tin of tuna in brine / water drained with some black pepper and vinegar or a measured tablespoon of salad cream is only going to be 140 cals (plus the 40 cals for the salad cream if you use it) is really filling with the band and tasty and nothing else really goes with it..specially not sweet stuff...might be worth a try.

This is also a good binge avoider even without a band/good retriction

Caroline, having the bread with soup just turned it into a slider so it would probably explain why it went down so easily. Just make a fresh start and remember, dryer denser foods will stick in the pouch longer and make you feel fuller on less

Thanks Neen for the downloads - I think there is plenty there to keep me going! I am going to have to find a way to set up a link to stream things from my PC to the TV. Little research for next weekend:D.

New banders - now I am no expert but this is my tip - please follow the guidance given by your providers about the early stages. I do not want to preach but if you are really going to make this work for you, you really have to be very strict with yourself. The band requires a huge amount of self discipline and if you do not start learning that then it will be a slippery slope down to disappointment. It is a tool and the trick is learning how to use it. Please look at Mazza's post (there is a link to it from Neen at the bottom of her posts) and look at the great guidelines there.

I would hate for us to lose any of you so early on because you have blips. I know the providers all give different guides about the various stages but they give them for a reason. Having just had a fill and feeling incredible restriction I am so glad I have to do 2 weeks liquids and then 2 weeks sloppies again because it is an opportunity to reinforce that discipline as well as giving the band type to adjust and your body too. Sorry if I am preaching and I do not mean to preach but do not waste the chance to really make a difference to your life.

Ok will get off my soap box now:soapbox::D.

I have been so good I feel so bad

I have been so good I feel so bad

Please do not feel bad - as that is another thing - we need to lose some of these demons that haunt us about food - guilt being one of them. Easier said then done though. It has happened - do not dwell on it - onwards and downwards with the weight:hug99:.

Well one blip does not automatically negate everything you have done so far til that point!!!
Look at it this way, one day of extra food will stop your metabolism from setting itself too low which is actually going to HELP weight loss because if you eat near starvation all the time your metabolism slows down to a crawl and anything you eat your body will horde most of it in fat cells just in case....

soooooo....one day a week, yes fine , have a nice munch...get it out of your system without feeling guilty. Take time over what you have and truly savour it. IF you are enjoying it great...it's your day to do so...you might find that when you allow it guilt free on the treat day, the "naughty" food loses all power over you and you may not like it as much as you thought.

If you are going to be daft and think "OOh nooooo i have ruined everything with this particular day...might as well give up now and eat myself stupid because I failed ...woe is me etc"
Then yes you probably will do, because that is the sort of irrational self flogging all or nothing silliness that got a lot of us into this flipping mess in the first place!

Take it from me as I have done all of the above many times and it really doesn't do any good.

Accept you just fancied more to eat that particular time and then get back on the wagon and stop making yourself miserable.
As long as we eat sensibly and move a bit each day...most days will be good ones and we will lose weight.

You will get nowhere and achieve nothing by beating yourself up over one incident except back where you started because all that overenthusiastic self whupping will just be an excuse and a free pass to pig out daily and wallow in self pity.

Forget about it and crack on from this moment on xxxxx

Thanks for the kick up backside what you and Neen have said is exactly what I needed to hear! Since trying that stupid bread I have had a pounding head, drinking water in the hope it will pass! ;) xx

Ouch Neen that sounds painful, I hope it's eased for you.

Kat, fab loss, well done.

Piratess, I was the same yesterday and nibbled the day away (I think it was the shock of bringing my food back up that upset my routine), I love humous but don't buy it often as I can eat lots of it.

JoJo, I feel for you, it isn't uncomfortable when food gets stuck. When I had less restriction I tried a quarter of toast, however with this fill I daresn't try it as I know it'll hurt. However I do find the crispbreads, melba toasts etc, good alternatives.

Caz, don't feel bad chick, the reason we're all here is that we have our demons to conquer, and it's normal to be able to eat large amounts before we get the right restriction.

Tb, I hope you don't have to do too much work today. How're your ankles atm?

I find it so bizarre that different providers give you different advice, I'm not allowed bread, rice, pasta or chips as they can cause pain, yet other providers have different dos/don'ts. I'm not really missing them, apart from the occasional chinese takeout when I would love fried rice!

I have been so organised (or anal depending on your point of view) today and have made a meal and exercise plan for next week and pinned it to the fridge. I'm hoping it'll help my journey.

Breakfast:
Coffee
Porridge

Snack:
2 jaffa cakes (note to self-never let hubby go shopping he buys nice food!)

Lunch:
Sweet potato and bacon soup, 1/2 toasted wrap and humous

Exercise:
Polished and cleaned bathrooms upstairs
30 mins Rosemary Connelly dvd ----now pooped!!

Neen I'm starting to get an image of you in leather with a big whip  ;)
Both you and TB have given sound advice (as always) xx

Well done Sarah!!! Getting a plan ready is excellent. I find that I am most tempted to nibble when I am stood in the kitchen at a meal time trying to decide what to have...the less faffing about before preparing food for yourself and others, the better.
I now make sure I know exactly what everyone is having way ahead of time each meal so the time in the kitchen is as quick as possible.
And also when I am preparing the kids food and lunch boxes I have a bowl out on the worktop full of sugarfree chewing gums, so I just cram some of that in my mouth so no stray biscuits or hand fuls of ham/cheese etc get in there by accident.

Planning ahead is a really great way to minimise chances to slip up xxxx

Well I Weighed myself this morning and I had Put 2 lbs on overnight!!! How is that possible? I am being so good at the moment, the only thing I can think is for lunch I had the inside of a JP with mushed beans and cheese. I was out for the day and the only real sloppy option.

Anyway I think I need to get rid of my scales and only allow them out on Thursdays for my weigh day, as I am becoming a slave to them

Anyway yesterdays 2pm inducing food was

Breakfast : 2% Greek yogurt and red berries
Snack: drink of milk
Lunch JP beans and cheese
Snack: 2 % yoghurt, with a smidge of honey
Dinner: small bowl of thai chicken soup, well chewed orange

grrr, damn those carbs

Sent from my iPad using WLSurgery

Hi Em..I got the scales out midweek and according to them was 3lbs heavier than last Saturday, but got on yesterday and apparently lost 5lbs making me 1lb lighter than last Saturday...er... just under 2lbs lost but the wii doesn't show half pounds.

So the moral of the story is, weigh same time same place same day once a week or be miserable for no good reason!!

Also to put on 2lbs of actual fat you would have needed to eat about 7000 calories and layed still all day..sooooo don't worry too much about that reading

:D

I too need to hide my scales, im becoming obsessed i swear. Im jumping on them every morning and as all this week i have stayed the same im worried im doing something wrong :(

Im 11 days post op and still on sloppies, i can now eat a healthy microwave meal blended and only feel full right at the end, my hubby seems to think i maybe eating too much  as i couldnt do this begin with (i know i will have lost some swelling)

Some meals i leave food and some i dont.

Just a quicky is humous as good as I think it is?
Am I right in thinking low cal would be ok to stave off the binge monster if I put it with carrot sticks and cucumber?

Sarah the ankles are getting better each day although that said I have been keeping off them as much as I can. The big test will be this week when I have to travel into the office for most days. Going to work at home on Friday and trying to squeeze another day as well but it is looking doubtful. I think the new water tablets are doing the trick. Thank you for asking.

I am laughing at some of the posts - the one from Neen about the bin liner is a classic:D.

Scales and weighing yourself is a nightmare which is why I will not do it now. I just let the hospital weigh me and tell me what they think I have lost - and given that they have not managed to sort their records out what I have actually lost according to them is anyone's guess:rolleyes:. Constantly weighing yourself can cause you to have a nervous breakdown. Believe me I came close to it after my op when I gained 9 pounds in fluid from whetever they pumped into me. It took forever to go and nearly took my sanity with it!

I go by how I feel generally and how my clothes feel and it is happier place for ME although I do appreciate that seeing the numbers go down is reassuring for most people. From my start weight (and I am taking that as the day I started my pre op diet) I have about 14 stones to lose and so for me there is no point in fretting about weighing because it is going to take a long time. Best thing for me is to relax and enjoy the slow ride;).

Back to doing my stuff for work:(.
