BANDERS UNITE ! Get to know each other chatter !

Weeeeeeeellll - its not been a quick fix! I was reluctant to get too many fills too soon as well as you after hearing how people suffered. Yes Ive lost 74lbs BUT its taken 18 months. I have no tips other than the usual, I honestly owe my losses to the decrease in volume the band has enforced. I have never been sick though and 'try' to stick to the rules.

My health was pretty bad pre op (gynea) and I had put on loads of weight, I had the band to lose the weight to get the surgery basically.

Less food and (eat healthier options before, just waaaay too much) + exercise (sometimes hard to before my hysterectomy) = a weight loss. There were times when I had stalls but in the main thats because I was skipping meals or not getting enough food in.

What did the nurse say about your diet?

ta mazz

the nurse said that even if she does give me a fill the protein shakes can act to bulk out my calorie intake.

The nurse said i've been much more cautious than most banders in respect to fills but she did say i need to let go a little as i'm over cautious.

thanks for ya help Mazola xxxxx :) :hug99:

Ive been exactly the same but there is no way I want to end up throwing up after every mouth full! I love my food too much still, just in much smaller quantities ;)

Any time CC, oh and we still need to arrange to meet :D

Logging off now, early start working in Birmingham tomorrow. Was there today too but the train in was delayed 62 minutes grrrrrrrrrr x x x

Just deleted my message.

I had said something like this but more long winded.....

Goodmorning everyone, hope you are all ok.

And does anyone know of a good low carb replacement for spagetti? I can only think of using cabbage but it sounds a bit gross. Any ideas please, craving spagetti but dont want to have it?

Hey :) try rice noodles, lighter and loads less cals. Unsure how carb dense they may be tho xx

Morning ladies,

Be back in a short while, but I have some good news.....down another pound.....what A freaky body I have...no idea what happened, but lets see if I can do it again...only 3 left and 1 week....I am going to work hard so I can do it.

Hi all,
Just thinking about how the band works in spite of the low cals etc.
If you think about it, most other diets are things we come off of after a certain amount of time.
So we lose whilst we follow them (sometimes) and we do not sustain the loss after we revert back to a different way of eating (or the old way)

Despite various problems with restriction and slider foods , you cannot "come off" a band.
So you are eating less in the long term and it must be enough to shift the weight or I am pretty sure with all the mistakes I have made, I would still be at my starting weight.

Hi all, Totally agree with this, I had similar thoughts about the band not working for me because I have struggled for so long to loose weight but with the band it is forever. If you loose a pound a month its a pound a month gone forever. Of course you have to work with it but I am happy to bide my time and wait. Sometimes we need to eat more of the right stuff to loose weight. I know these really low calorie diets work but not in the long term so that is not what we are about anymore.

Do you ever watch Biggest looser america?? I know its not the best source of info  but the trainers on the show often up the amounts of food in a very controlled way when one of the contestants have a stall and amazingly it works.

funnily enough i've tried to up my calories this week. ta for that info.

why dont you think biggest loser is a good source of info?

well done you

Thanks hun;)

How are feeling today?

I know neen is right about what she says...and I do think the band will be the best thing for me I think I was trying to get my head around it all and what what I am doing now......so....We shall see....I have 6 days to go....I should try and lose an extra pound or two if possible, cuz I weight myself naked....not to mention their scales show me as 2 lbs lighter than mine... but the weight difference is the same...16 was what I meant to lose......and that morning I am not going to drink any of my milk, as I am planning on going out for dinner onthe way back with my OH and the baby as we are going to be out later....( driving 3 and a half hours for a 20 minute appointment and then 3 and half hours back!) SO I won't be getting any exercise that day *LOL* Luckily it is half term so my son won't miss any school....may take him along as well...not sure just yet...cuz I can see the whole? ( I need to go to the toilet mum!" or " I am hungry or bored!" ) *lol*

I've never watched it....but I shall. When it is on?

Meant to ask but have any of your tried ostrich meat? It is not only very similar to steak, it is extremely low in fat but has the same texture as beef....and is super yummy.....just thought i would ask....and Pigeon is also lower in fat than duck and is very similar...(wood pigeon not the dirty little grub suckers in the parks and high streets.....

Hi Ffbb, I havent tried either but I am game for anything so I will see if I can get hold of some when I am able to eat it. I did try cougette (cant spell that) last night though. I foundan idea to use it instead of spagetti on the internet. I just peeled it and grated it (you are supposed to use some special piece of equipment but this worked ok) then boiled it for about 5 mins and strained it. Was pretty good actually. Not spagetti but good.

The biggest looser is on Sky 1 in the afternoon usually about 12ish. sky plus it though. Bit obsessed with it.

Hi girls x
Well done Jenn!!!! It's going hun :D

Leesh I love biggest loser and I do actually think the trainers know what they are talking about. If they can get those people slim and changing their lifestyle with no surgery then I think I'm pretty confident in their advice x
I have watched a lot of the seasons as we don't get them all in sequence usually over on british TV..so I download them from the net.
I think their season 10 is underway now, just started...and I am watching season 9.
I think sky actually have season 8 up to date at the moment and I promise no spoilers xxx

I have been a member of Jillians website and it has been a great resource in terms of calorie allowances and recipes etc.
Also have an audio book of Bob's if anyone wants it.

You would be better to stem it rather than boil as the boiling will take the nutrients out. But a good try. You can also just use a peeler and just peel down the courgette and get thin flat pieces. I love courgettes. I have the steamed like a stirfry, with mushrooms and broccoli as a nice dish...lovely with a bit of onions and garlic as well....and then I put my meat sauce on or quorn sauce on top.....lovely and very filling.

Ladies that website I put on last night weightlossresources.co.uk is great I have been checking it out.....I think I am going to sign up. It works out at £8 a month for the 6 months...but it has loads of info. Dieticians on there you can consult, tells you how many calories to have for your chosen weight loss....I put mine as 2lbs a week but you can do as little as 1/2 pound per week. It shows you the calories and you just put the food in and it works out how many calories you have eaten and how many you have left for the day. I reckon with the band it would be great. Nice I lose that pound yesterday I put that into the figures and it has lowered my intake to 1599 a day I should have and that I would need 2599 to sustain my weight....so by cutting out 1000 a day, I am cutting 7000 a week which is equivalent to 2lbs per week.
They have a food bank kind of thing that you can input any food and it will give you the portion sizes, caloric intake, and breaks it down into carbs, proteins etc....it seems great....

You can have a 24 hour free trail...which was what i have done and they have a forum too....I that with the band and this...it will help me personally make sure I have not only goals, but I can see day to day what is going on and you are also keeping a food diary....so not a bad thing....if you are going wrong somewhere the dieticians can look at your diary and help you to make changes.....so I can see that £8 will make a good value for me.;)

hi all,
well i went to the support group meeting and i have to say what a great bunch of people. I felt really welcome.

I met our Rache, sambucca and Angie which was really good. I will defo be going back again. I met someone i know but i didn't recognise him lol he's had a bypass and looks totally different!.

The guest speaker was a very nice plastic surgeon, who told us all the different procedures he did, and that they have the go ahead to do tummy op's as long as you fit his strict criteria...bmi under 30, don't smoke and your over hang has to be a certain size. Arms and legs are never done on the nhs well brum anyway. The way he can uplift breasts was interesting by using a layer from under you skin sewing it to your ribcage in a mound and hey presto new boobs!! although i'm sure it's a tad more technical than that lol.

Will weigh tomorrow jenn and let you know:eek: and well done on your pound off :D

Kelly-- no worries hun. I am glad you found the meeting useful and friendly. It's great that you have such support in your area.

Thanks about the lose....only 3 more to go and then yeah..... I will be happier....or so I think till I have another bad day!! *LOL*

Thanks Neen I will have a look on the website. I will also have a go at steaming the courgette too (never really liked it much before but it was nice).

I have to say my angelic behaviour from yesterday was short lived! I recieved a dissapointing phone call and walked straight into the kitchen and ate pretty much a whole tub of pate!!!! What is wrong with me? I am so ashamed and wont know what to tell my husband if he fancies some (pate, hehehe) when he gets home because he would think that was pretty gross. I would not of said i had a big problem with emotional eating before this op but I just dont think I ever realised what I was doing.

Smack my legs please???

Sounds like you had a lovely time Kelly! Well done for going :)
I wish I could get to one!
I got my rc portion pots today...wow some of them..(most of them) are teeny...gulp
I was a bit disappointed with the info card.I was hoping for a better usage guide :(

what does the guide say? I am sure there is something on the internet about them...there is a video on her site that shows her using them.....
