Countdown to Balloon Launch

Frankie, can I ask why you have the balloon pre bypass?

Certainly Yve ... Both NHS & Ross Hall surgeons have deemed that it is too risky to operate on me at my previous/current weight. I have an enlarged heart, severe asthma, verging on COPD, sleep apnoea & i have had issues with past anasthesias so I suppose I'm an anaesthetists nightmare. They want my BMI to be at least 50 before they do the deed... Me personally, knowing the risks, i wish they had got right in there and just done it but hey ho. The reflux (GORD) and hiatus hernia are not making the balloon any easier to cope with but I am getting there. X

Ah okay. My health problems were nt as severe - i only wondered as they were willing to operate on me.

Won't hurt to find out !!!!
No point wondering for months when u could already be on your weight loss journey.
Good luck xx

Cb4 if you look over on the left panel you will see a profile under yve's name. You will find most people put a summarised account of where they are in their WLS journey there, what op they have had, where surgery was done etc etc. You will see Yve has already had her surgery on the 16th April 2012 and that she had a bypass losing 168lb :) {well done yve}.
The reason she was asking me about why I had the balloon is because we were both a similar BMI at the start yet I was told I could not have a bypass till my BMI was greatly reduced, hence the balloon, while Yve being slightly healthier got her surgery regardless of her high BMI.... I hope this helps clarify xx

Meant to add that you can access your own profile by going to the green topic banner at the top of any forum page & click "user CP" which opens up your control panel page. On the left of the page you will see a list of actions in a grey box. Near the top of that box you will see "edit your details". If you click on that another page will open up in which you can enter your details, if you want to share them with other forum members that is. Remember to save any changes you make before leave the page ;)
Apologies if you are already aware of this feature CB4 xx

Thank you! This is a difficult one - I don't know is the answer. I don't really know what weight to aim for as different people tell me different things - in the end I think it will be a decision in terms of what looks right in the mirror. Ideally at least another 4-5 stone, but I don't know how realistic that is. In the end I suspect my body will decide.

We'll if it's anything to go by, I am 5 foot 7 and when I am under 12 stone, I am grand but technically still overweight. Anything under 11, I am getting gaunt looking with a lollipop head!!!!!!!

Thank you hon. Can I ask what clothes size you wear at 12 stone? or even now? Because I am finding I am wearing a size much smaller than others at my weight.

Sorry my Internet connections not great! I did reply a while ago :(
Any way!!!!!
You have done a fab job!!!! You go girl!
Hope ur proud!
I'm at 14st and in a size 16 clothes.
It's hard!!! I have two sisters that are at least 2 stone lighter than me! All three of us are 5ft 4inches and they are both in a size 18 clothes!
I refuse to wear anything tight so I don't beat myself into my clothes. I still am classed as the big one and can't tell if I look the biggest now or not! I think I will never be smaller than the two of them:( I've always been the biggest!
But have to keep trying :)

hi I got the balloon in feb the 9th 2012. pre balloon I have lost 5st and since having it put in I'm down another 11lb!!! slow but getting there!!! my goal is to loose another 3stone!

At 12 stone I was a 14, under 11 and a half, I was a twelve. As I get closer to eleven stone, I was a ten or small 12, under 11 stone, I was a size ten. Under 10 and a half, I was an eight. Hope that makes sense!!

It does but it also drives me bonkers. I am 18 stpne and comfortably in a 20. Starting to get into 18s on top that aren't stretchy. Can you see now why I'm confused?

The gap between sizes isn't equal. You may have to loose at least another stone to be comfortable in 18 etc. I posted earlier about seeing a lot of weight coming off on the scales but I am not seeing any changes in clothes. In fact I have nearly lost two stone so far and have not shifted a clothes size. Clothes are more comfortable but nothing drastic! Just give it some time, I am sure it will find an equilibrium.
