December 2014 Surgeries

It makes perfect sense.

My Christmas dinner might be a few spoons of soup or a cup of Bouillon. I did contemplate liquising a whole turkey but that could be hard work and it would last a very very long time.

Hi Marcusbm

Im really pleased you have done well in your op are you home yet? I will share the turkey with you if you manage it...lol :D probably like you not fussed about missing out on Christmas dinner this year I think all we want is to start a fresh new year on a good footing, if the op sorts my health problems of reflux and asthma I will be very happy x

I'm staying in Brugge for the weekend and will travel back on Monday.

Not bothered by Christmas this year although friends seem to think it's a bigger issue than I do.

My reflux problem was instantly fixed by surgery.

There are a few things that I'm getting used to - or not getting used to. For example I haven't been to the toilet (apart from peeing) since surgery. I know I haven't eaten much but I thought I'd still go at least once a day.

Hi Marcusbm

Since I have been on my pre op diet of milk and yogurt I am about every 3 days, I was wondering once the op is done and are eating relatively small normal meals will our toilet be normal and digested properly or are we to see some whole undigested food? silly question but one I have not read about yet. Not a nice subject I know but it is a real one.

I've yet to have this illustrious experience.

I expect normal unless dumping just less frequent.

Just think about taking some laxatives till you have your first movement as I was constipated after my op and it was no fun.

I still have to take laxatives if I miss a movement for one day just in case.

Got through Day 1 of LSD ok and was down 5lbs this morning making it 2 stone since jan 1st. Day 2 and I'm STARVING. 2 small bananas for breakfast and looking forward to dippy eggs for lunch. At my mother-in-law's at the mo and she's a feeder...certainly doesn't get dieting and keeps offering food. when we got in last night there was not one but 2 meals to choose from...fortunately I'd had my 250 cal salad from waitrose at the services on the way down and could excuse myself. Not easy!!

Hope all you post-oppers are doing OK - I need to know...are you hungry at all?

I haven't gone since the morning right after my surgery. About 5 days at this point, but I'm only on clear liquids/clear protein. The nausea and dry heaves are what bother me from time to time. The trapped gas is better but still highly prevalent.

Tmi- I've vomited (mostly stomach fluids) twice this week and also directly after leaving the recovery room from my surgery (which was pretty violent). The ones at home weren't too bad, but again my stomach is way more sensitive than it's ever been so it's taking some getting used to.

These are just those unexpected side effects that we won't know we will encounter until the deal is done I suppose.

Pre op dieting was definitely mind over matter for me. Very difficult to stay focused on the goals with all the food cravings. But after a while I got used to saying "no thanks" like it was second nature. Lol

Now that I'm 5 days post op, I've had a few food aversions, mostly to smells. But, my stomach is just very weak right now (not a typical side effect I don't think).

I don't physically crave food right now, but when I see something I used to eat on tv or hear about, I mentally crave it. Guess that's what got me Here in the first place.

The pre op dieting really helped me develop self control. So I can see something, want to eat it, yet still refuse it and be okay.:)

God grief those dippy eggs were gooooood! Now looking at 350 cals left for the day and just wondering how I get between 1pm and bedtime!

In a hotel. Have two tofu pudding pots and water. Downstairs can get hot water/peppermint tea. Have a bottle of mineral water so I'm set up for the day.

Question about tomorrow. There's a buffet breakfast. Trying to work out what I can have as I might not be able to read the labels for things like yogurts. I'm guessing just one slice of toast and then go back to my room.

The lsd was really hard and the hunger the hardest bit!!! I'm now 7 weeks post op and have never felt hungry since, my whole attitude to food has changed and instead of constantly seeking food I can now take it or leave it.

Hope that helps :)

So it's now 17days since my surgery. It's gone so quickly. I am feeling so different towards food. Before surgery I never used to plan my meals in a such a balanced way. This surgery has really opened my eyes so much more to what I put into my mouth. So far I have not had any sign of dumping syndrome, but have avoided sugar and high fat foods like the plague. Watching the scales go down is still so surreal. I have never had them go this low. My energy levels are increasing but I need to learn to pace myself. I went Christmas food shopping for us, three different supermarkets, it was tiring. Only got the fresh veg to buy now. I am actually looking forward to this Christmas, the first healthy Christmas I think I've ever really had. Traditionally my family growing up always had massive Christmas meals, this year is the start of a new tradition, serious portion control. You can have a little of everything and not miss out and still be within calorie limits. I have really learnt not to let my head rule my stomach. It's weird not having any feeling of hunger at all. Anyway before this becomes an essay. Wishing you all a Happy and Healthy Christmas and New Year!

I'm feeling hungry now but I've missed a couple of meals today as I couldn't get to a supermarket. I have one soya yoghurt pot and I'm rationing it to as late as I can. I know it won't take much to feel full at least.

Hope all are ok. Not been on too much...putting my surgery to back of my mind at moment since cancellation (still hurts :( to back of mind at moment. So checking in now and again.

Katy if it helps I found 2nd day on pre op worst and a few videos I watched on you tube a few ppl said same thing x

I'd agree. Day 2 was the worst and by day 5 I was in the 'swing' of a routine. On day 21 I was allowed to break the fast for an evening, while I enjoyed a meal I wouldn't be able to have post-op I actually wasn't that bothered by it.

I am getting my appetite back now, and feel hungry at usual meal times.... I seem to be ok with the liquids. I can drink water fine, tea and coffee only half a cup... Soups half a cup.... And had a calipo today because we were out.... Mmmm it was nice! I do have spasms in my tummy and a lot of girgling. I am trying to have 2 protein drinks and 2 yogurts a day but I find I get full up on the water and then have no room for food. It's a learning curve for sure... The mental side of it is driving me bonkers. I cooked the kids sausage and chips for tea and the smell was divine!!! I even licked a sausage ( shameful!!)..... But when out and about I can take it or leave it. Christmas will be hard, just having soups.... But it will be worth it in the end....

Well my surgery actually went ahead on friday 19th. Everything went well. Surgeon said my liver was tiny and I had no adhesions.

Not much nausea or heaving and onto free fluids now in hospital. Hopefully getting home today as its boring in here lol.

gas pain in shoulder is a bit of a cow nothing seems to calm it.

But its done now at last onwards and upwards

Congrats. Welcome to the losers' bench.

The gas pain can last over 72 hours but usually starts fading after 48. It will be quickly forgotten.
