February 2015 Surgeries

Hi Alison,
Thank you I am fine. I started eating normal food - should be still in soft food but I chew everything, hey! I have not eaten pasta/ read but have eaten more or less same as others, pretty much. Portions are very small of course but nice not to puree or mash anymore. Down side, no weight loss, maybe a tiny gain. Up side, more energy and no dizziness and no more of those horrid protein powders - can eat meat.
I am confident that once body gets used to new eating regime, weight loss will re-start.

Glad to hear you are much better.

Cherub, good to hear you are on the mend too.

Did not heed my own counsel and had a glass of wine last night. Lovely at the time, but paying for it today, bloody starving, craving carbs AND a headache - on one small glass. That`ll teach me.... :(

I`m fine, just knuckling down to the house work with all the windows open, what a lovely day! Yesterday - had family round for dinner, ate just meat and veg and one small spud, and had been out on 90 min walk, way under calories so I thought....why not? Lesson learned, not going there again....

Oh not sunny in Suffolk.
Well done with your exercise, house work and walk. It all helps.
Enjoy the day x

When you have a fill, you will need to go back to liquid or soft diet again for a few days whilst your body gets used to it and work up through the stages again, this is very short term and will help you tolerate solid food again.
Good luck on thurs!

Hope you feel better now, beautiful here in sunny Worcestershire.

We are all headed in the right direction xxxx

Thanks all, I am feeling restriction with this band, surgeon told me he'd put some saline in so I am getting a small idea of what's to come. Really trying hard to adopt the 20/20/20 rule, I have an interval timer for exercise and I'm thinking of setting it up for mealtimes at home to guide me towards good habits! Hope all are well, especially Cherub and Alison who have had such a crap time. And yes Worcestershire is lovely today, off out again in a bit for another walk to make the most of it. Happy bank holiday ladies!

I just walked the dog!!!! Ok he is 13 and a wedgie but I went out alone and took him around the block. Got the tissue viability nurse coming tomorrow to discuss vac therapy which is a negative pressure device like a handbag to close my big wound.

Not sure if I want it as it makes farty noises and you can see the stuff in the tube coming out which is a bit gross for other people xx

No mouse its a tube attached to the wound then a long tube ? 2-3 foot that goes into a canister into like a handbag x

I see that can be unpleasant for you and others. Not a nice choice, is there nothing else they could do?

They can carry on packing it daily but it may take months to heal, so bit of choice really, put up with the vac handbag and hope I am healed to go to turkey in 8 weeks or carry on with making and it may take longer. :(:(:(

I couldn't put up with the daily packing tbh. It would be handbags all the way, not nice but shorter and more foreseeable outcome?

I saw a patient in the community who had one of the machines you're talking about. He had had postop complications. The vac worked really well and I saw him weekly for a month. He didn't have it the whole of that time, probably a couple of weeks and it really helped his recovery. I was aware he had it because he told me about it and it did make a little noise buti could never see what came out of it.
?might be a way of ensuring you get to Turkey and help you recover faster.
How long will you have it if you go for it?

Not sure how long - as long as it takes to heal, I will go to Turkey even if not healed as my husband is happy to dress for me, but hoping wound will be a lot smaller by then. Anyway Tissue Viability Nurse due at 2.00 pm so I will take her bet advice.

Still feeling a little better every day, did nearly 7000 steps yesterday just with short dog walk and pottering around house. Son back at uni so missing his company but daughter back from malta today :).

I must say the sunshine is lifting my spirits, and on another note, do we all work for the NHS on this thread??!!

I work for NHS.
