February 2015 Surgeries

Well I have had the tissue viability nurse don't have to have the vac, she has changed the dressing to one including silver and is pleased with the wound.

That's great news Alison. Keep on healing! Xx

At least i won't have to walk around with a tube making farty noises now!!! the sound is out again is making me feel positive.

Have a great day ladies xx

Well done. I have potentially my first fill today but nutritionist thinks I might not have one as am losing the weight and have a bit of restriction anyway. Kind of hoping I won't as its a friend's birthday at the weekend and not sure how I would explain away a fluid diet!

Sorry to hear about all your problems Alison and cherub I have had a band repair but if it fails again I was looking at revision to either sleeve or bypass but you both seem to have really been through the mill hope your both ok now and good luck Siana with your first band fill x

Good luck Monalisa. I hope everything works out well for you. What happened to me is apparently not the norm and my surgeon told my partner that he had never experienced it before although had heard of it and is quite rare.
I think alison and I experienced pretty much the same thing, which doesn't happen to everyone so don't let us put you off!
Take care, Ruth xx

Yes monalisa don't go by us as we are the rare ones! Hopefully your band will be fine 2nd time around. Siana hope your appointment goes okay, does sound like you don't need a fill xx

And I didn't have a fill. Bariatric nurse says weight loss has been good, and as I had some complications post op and I also had a hysteroscopy yesterday (groan) that her preference was to leave well alone. Talked a bit about calories and basal metabolic rates etc and TBH she was more informative than the nutritionist. Feeling a lot more confident that I'm on right track and if I don't need the fill then so be it. Seeing her again in a month. A good day :) and her scales weigh less than mine....lol!

Good that she seems to know her stuff, also that you have another appointment so soon xx

Had my first assessment with her, before I even got to surgeon and she filled me with confidence then, obviously knows her stuff and doesn't take any nonsense, my kind of woman! She has lost 15 st with gastric sleeve and has survived lung cancer, remarkable. How are you all doing today? Hope those wounds and bits are doing as they should.....

She sounds great Siana. I am crippled with sciatica the last couple of days. Have booked chiropractor on Tuesday, never been before but want some relief xx

Have enjoyed the sun today, really lightens my mood. Didn't loose any weight this week but not panicking yet!!

Nice surprise, a few more pounds off and my first eating out challenge all in one day! Out with friends who don't know about the op, ordered a starter type dish and had a coffee in the pub.....so easy, and this was the bit I was most worried about.

Siana that's great you are getting a positive approach from your provider. If your doing great without those films it means you have them up your sleeve for s rainy day if needed

Cherub and Alison glad your healing better. Alison what a bummer about your back

Siana were you back having more surgery already. A hysterectomy ?

, just a little poke about and a biopsy. Usually done without anaesthetic, but in my case looks like I need the anaesthetic as after an hour of fiddling with my nethers it still wasn't successful :(

That made me chuckle, sciatica is a pain in the bum! That is a pain Siana that you have to go through it all again xx

How are things cherub xx

Hi All,

Sounds like you're all doing really well. Hope your pain settles very soon Alison. How's your wound healing?
Siana, sounds like you had a good experience going out for a meal. Hope your next procedure goes better than your last!

I'm ok, still on flucloxacillin 1G qds, been on it 7 weeks now! Got clinic on weds and have had blood tests done so consultant will be able to let me know if need to stay on them our can come off. Still feeling very tired and not doing much, appetite still poor but spoke to dietician on phone who says I'm doing well considering! Need to go clothes shopping as all my clothes way too big but haven't got the energy or inclination to go clothes shopping! Still not driving yet, in fact still getting shopping delivered!
urology clinic rang other day and asked me to go on fri, saw lovely consultant who is trying to get me sorted. She's writing to my consultant for info about what happened during my op, did bladder scan and exam. She's started me on some meds too. Got to have cystoscope to see what's happening inside bladder - she said sometimes surgeons put stitches in bladders by mistake and that she finds all sorts! She can't work out why I'm not having sensations that bladder is full. May need other tests if this doesn't show anything.
And the district nurses and 1 gp said I didn't need urology and they wouldn't see me yet as I'm not bad enough and they'd want me to fully recover from op before seeing me. Yet the clinic fitted me in very quickly and consultant is concerned!
I do wish services wouldn't speak for each other, they clearly don't know their remit!
Feeling more hopeful now though.
