Hey, Yasmine-Samara,

I've only joined today, but I had the second part of the DS on 16th May, and the first part (the sleeve) in May 2007. I gather from some of your posts that you were trying to find fellow DS'ers on here, but it seems you only found one who is in the US? Of course it is a rarer op here than the gastric bypass, but I'm surprised there aren't some more on here. Your weight loss is terrific, but I do wonder if you realise that most DS'ers try to limit their carbs to 50g a day or even less, but can have high fat and must have high protein? Our needs and plumping are very different from the people with a bypass, but I'm sure you know that. I've no intention of hijacking this thread much more, as it's really to log what people eat, but personally I think you are eating far too many carbs - too much bread, too much fruit and definitely you shouldn't be eating breakfast cereals! Are you taking all the DS supplements ok? I have to take loads including extra calcium, zinc and iron, plus one high strength multi-vit and two special water soluable multi-vits called ADEKS. Other differences between us and the bypassers are that we can drink with meals and we don't have to do the endless chewing because we don't have a little pouch like them, but a fully functioning little stomach. There's loads more stuff you need to know (or maybe you do already?). Please don't be offended if you do know all this or feel that I'm speaking out of turn.
Anyway, well done and glad you are so positive and in a good head place - it's vital!

Hi there,

At last a fellow DSer!!

No I wasn't aware that I should only have 50g of carbs. My weight loss has really slowed right down and I was wondering what had happened. I can't even PM you until you have done 50 posts so quick, get typing...lol!
Just had a bowl of cereal for breakfast - doh!
I will make sure I don't have anymore today. I would love to speak to you but not sure how I can give you my contact details without everybody else on here being able to view them so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

thanks sooooo much for your advice and I am sure there is so much more that I don't know about that you could help me with.

Look forward to speaking to you very soon!

xxx

Is it possible to have too much protein and would there be any adverse side effects?

anyone?!?!?!

Yes it is possible to have too much protein which would over tax your kidneys and could cause serious health problems. That said you in the normal course of eating won't find it easy to eat too much protein. I think unless you have problems with you kidneys already you would have to have an extreme amount to cause problems (maybe 3x what you are currently having) so don't worry.

Nic;)

b - piece of toast
d - half a baked spud with cheese and beans
t - 3 fish fingers and 2 slices of beef
snacks - 2 bananas

:eek:Food, yes well I have been bad today, but I will fess up to it, tomorrow is another day and I plan to cut this nonsense out!

B - banana, 2 milky coffees
L - 1/3 tuna sandwich, some crisps (good sized handful) and those were full fat hideously caloric:eek:
D - 2 slices turkey, slice of cheese on top, veggies (broccoli, carrots, cauliflower)

*Snacks* - ahh, my downfall today, endless snacks: skinny cow ice cream bar, some sugar-free oreos, some sugar-free chocolate chip cookies, a few more crisps...

Feel free to tell me off 'cause I know I have it coming. I CANNOT eat like this and be healthy. I CANNOT eat like this and lose weight. I CANNOT continue down the snacking road even if it is sugar-free, that does not mean it is calorie free which at the end of the day means BAD GIRL! I solemly swear to myself to get my hands out of the snacks. No more bad grazing behaviour for me.

Nic:D

On the otherhand - tomorrow is another day! lol x

Aww, thanks Sal. I am being good today, 2 meals so far and no snacks, will write it all down later. We all have those bad days, it happens. Glad that I have to be accountable here so that those bad days don't turn into bad weeks!

See a bad few days post op is completely different to a bad few days pre-op so least thats a good thing! I have struggled this last week or so with food...hence why I started posting to see if anyone else thinks its bad. Tea time has been a mouthful here and there...so today I have just had some sardines for dinner and plan on having a bowl of chilli for tea after swimming! Heres hoping!
Gad you feel back on track...I was reading previous posts...the nando's crisp post especially! Havnt been that bad since! lolol

Nic,

You have been doing really well so don't be too hard on yourself. At least you had the strength to admitt where you have been going wrong and I know you will sort it out and get to your goal very soon.

You are only human and even in this post op stage are still going to have your ups and downs hun.

take care!! xxx
