Hi, I'm Kirsty, banded August 2014. My post op dairy

Aww feel for you Kirsty I hate been on liquids, like the weight loss with it tho, every cloud has a silver lining. I think there's pros and cons with every surgery at least with the band you know what your doing now, don't be disheartened hun xxxx

Hey Kirsty, if they know the fills are leaking out somehow surly they still need to fix it.... Insist hunni...... You paid a lot of money for your package!... Stay strong and stand your ground until they get it sorted.... Fingers crossed for a positive meeting with your consultant! Xxx

I will do zjan

Kirsty, I met a lady at support group last night and she too had a leak in her band. She has had it replaced and the removed one has been sent back to America to find out the fault. But she is now back on the regime and losing again. She says she can really feel the difference with the new one. I hopes this helps in some way xxx

Hang in there girl...all will get sorted soon enough, then you'll wonder what all the faffing was about lol guess it will be like being a brand new shiny bander all over again lol it must be a little reassuring to know you've done so well with a broken band..............just imagine how well you can do with a working one!!!!

Huge hugs x x x

Hi kursty
Awh what a shame if it's any consolation I'm with you on the liquids just had a fill. A friend of mine had a leak her port tubing had come off but hers was emptying straight away as soon as they filled it so doesn't sound the same as yours are you nhs? I couldn't get funding for a sleeve but they repositioned my band my bmi was 35 good luck xxx

Hi gang
gutted - band needs a revision. Complicated because my provider does not have a single surgeon - not one - with any revision surgery experience

Discussed the different options. Was dead honest with the surgeon that I'm not comfortable going under the knife with a surgeon with no experience of my procedure. As he points out the only guy with this experience was the gorgeous Mr Galloway - my surgeon - who has now retired. He has told me he and a more experienced bariatric surgeon (still with no revision surgery experience) would do the operation together as it is a bit complex

I have a slow leak in the band itself

He wants to do one more full level test in two weeks just to make sure. But is 99.9% sure the slow leak is the problem

So not filled with bags of confidence tonight....so.... Feck it! I decided wine is still liquid and am 3/4 way through a bottle

Night nite my gang xxxx

Hi. Thanks for stopping by my diary xx

Oh Kirsty. This is really rubbish.

To a novice, if it's a leaking band is it not a case of taking one out and putting another in? Or are there other reasons for the complication?

So this revision will come under your original costs and contract - yes? If so, surely it's the providers responsibility to recruit a surgeon with experience for the procedure?

Looking on the bright side at least you are covered my two year after care only included a six month surgical cover. I could recommend the surgeon who did my revision prof basil ammori but I am in the Manchester area he is very experienced in this field don't know whether he would work with your provider ? When I looked into revision it did say should only be done by an experienced revision surgeon the biggest problem is that your stomach will have got adhesions to the band and they have to cut through these to remove/replace the band which carries a risk of perforation which I was advised could result in the band having to be permanently removed but I was fine so try not to worry but just try and make sure you are given the right man for the job!! Keep your chin up I know how crap it is I too take Prozac for anxiety which causes OCD under stress so try and keep your tablets up xxx

I would feel EXACTLY the same way. Reading that I get the impression your surgeon does not regard himself experienced enough.. sorry but I would be as pished as hell, not at the fact you were unlucky to get a faulty band but that the provider you used does not have the expertise to back up their aftercare.

Enjoy your wine hun. Hugs.

This is my concern. Revision band surgery is risky. Mr Gibson is lovely and took all my concerns on board ...but.... My research into revision surgery stresses the importance of experience in the procedure. I am going to phone my provider to see if there is anyone in the uk with experience. I would be prepared to travel. I have heard of mr ammori

How are you getting on with your revision?

I'm doing ok got 5ml in as of today need to lose what I've put back on now just playing at it not good! I'll copy something about him below from another thread he is very experienced in this area

Emma-Louise the fact that the prof wants a good look around is a good thing. It means he wants to get to the bottom of your pain. Have you seen the prof's stats, they're mind bogglingly excellent. He also gets the most difficult cases referred to him and yet his stats are still brilliant. I chose him rather than a provider for this very reason. I met him a few weeks ago and he really inspired me with confidence in his expertise. Honestly this is a good thing, you'll be in excellent hands and if anyone can get to the bottom of why you've been in such pain he's your man.

This is exactly how I am feeling. No poor me as I have a faulty band. Hey sh!t happens. .......but. I am feeling sorry for myself that no one experienced can do my revision. I'm p!ssed as hell tonight

Hi Kirsty in birmingham there is a Mr Paul Super at Heartlands Hospital he is meant to be a top guy he does a lot of private for the Hospital Group. He is meant to be very good that might be a name to mention or look into. After all if there is a fault you should be given the choice surely. You didn't go abroad did you. If not there shouldn't be a problem them engaging someone who right for the job. Fingers crossed for you .

Bear

Seemingly it's not as easy as it sounds lol

The revision will be covered under my two year plan xx

I think I will have to go with the assured weight loss providers surgeons

Kirsty Mr super did mine. I researched the surgeons & he was in my top 3. I've recently read he's doing surgery with a new type of band that's less likely to cause complications. He's worth investigating. In the mean time enjoy your wine & try not to worry too much. You know they're gonna fix it, u just gotta make sure u get the right guy to fix it. Big hugs my lovely lady x

Very tough for you Kirsty.
I am sorry. I hope your provider will listen to your concerns and appointment someone you are comfortable with. Maybe worth mentioning how on this site, we do recommendations for each other. We will sabotage them if they don't listen to you!

Good luck to you.
T

Not sure who your provider is but taking all the pain in the area and emotion out of it the facts are thus...you entered into a contractual arrangement with your provider, the band is faulty, they put it in, they need to rectify the situation. If they don't have a surgeon with the expertise(and a round of applause to them for acknowledging this) then I think that they are obliged to suggest an alternative. All these bariatric surgeons are on retainers/ have contracts with various providers and do their own stuff, they are rarely tied in to one. I can't really, see the problem if they have to retain someone who doesn't work regularly with them to do a one off? I commission specialist medical assessments fairly regularly, sometimes through a provider, sometimes with the medic direct - can't think it can be that different in hour case?

Oh Kirsty, I really do feel for you. The surgeon who did the surgery for the lady I met was Simon Monkhouse, at the Gatwick Spire hospital. I know it's long way to come and a different provider but thought I would let you know. He does have his own website, which may be worth looking at. Take care, this can be sorted xxxx
