January 2014 surgeries

Puréed everything I would normally eat. Apple purée for my breakfast then a soup for lunch adding in low fat cheese and blending. Mash and cheese, purée carrot, purée mince beef. Tomorrow's dinner is puréed beef stew. My husband is a chef so he has been doing meals then putting in little pots.

Been eating a couple of tablespoons a day but today as I never really felt full I went with 4oz pot of mince and 2oz mash potato and 2oz of carrot and just about felt full but not sure. Can't ever be bothered to eat so put timers and alarms on my phone so I stop drinking half an hour before food. Gives me half an hour to think about what I am going to eat etc. If I didn't I could go the full day without any food.

Bet u never thought youd have to do that..I know i never thought I could take or leave food lol! This is gonna sound so silly but how do u measure ur ounces of food?

roughly but only because they are put into baby food pots. So either 4oz or 2oz. Just means hubby can do dinner then split the rest down to purée and store.

I was looked after really well I have to say. Pain has been bearable, only niggle is the main port site other than that I am pain free. Wind has been an issue and I do think I pushed the liquid intake too much yesterday (I'm on a liquid only diet for the next 3-4 weeks). 200g is too much and felt like a rock just below my ribcage yesterday so I've brought it down and feel much more comfortable today. How are you? Hope everything has been going well for you :) xx

wind was dreadful with me below ribcage. Feeling really good for this first time today I almost feel "normal".

Can anyone help. I'm on purée stage at moment but had a very small amount of soup for a snack as nothing else at work. It was a very thin soup and only had 3 tbsp. my question is do I still need to wait 30 mins before drinking even though it's a liquid?

Hi Lara, love the new profile picture by the way! I was told that if the 'liquid' has nutritional valve then yes you do indeed have to wait.
X

I know I'm struggling with this rule, old habits were to drink with meals and then pretty much nothing else all day. Will perhaps have to follow your idea of setting timers x

Hi Matra, glad you are on the mend, I have noticed what a rough time you have had. I am going in to Albyn on the 6th February for my sleeve with Prof Bruce .

Hi crucon, I think I was just really unlucky! I did indeed have a rough time for 8/9 days post op but must say that I am well and truly on the mend now. My wounds are healing nicely and the blood bruising on my tummy is subsiding significantly. My fluid and 'food' intake is about what it should be. I must say that apart from gas pain I really wasn't in any other pain. The gas pain diminished a great deal once I was able to move around freely so as I am sure you have heard a million times, frequent walks are the key but the team will be around making sure that's the case!

Proff Bruce was very attentive and a lovely man. Every day I was in hospital he came to check on me, even coming in on the Saturday, furthermore I have to see him in a weeks time so he can check on my progress and blood works.

The treatment I received at Albyn was second to none. The nurses and healthcare assistance were all fantastic and very attentive, especially Sheila the HDU nurse, who it think went above and beyond for me on my first night.

How's the pre op going? Any questions feel free to ask :)

does anyone else get a lot of stabbing pains in the lower tummy area where the injections are going?

Mine burn a LOT for about 10-15 mins after. I have occasionally gotten short stabbing pains, but they're infrequent and only last about 2 seconds.

Hi Matra, The pre op diet is going fine- actually finding it quite easy to follow, had a couple of drinks last night and a tiny portion of haggis for burns night.... Apart from that sticking to the rule. My wife has been amazing throughout this whole journey & I wouldn't have managed without her.
I actually was all booked in for the sleeve op 2 years ago but bottled it at the last minute, really regret that now as I have actually gained another 2 stone since.

I do feel comfortable with Prof Bruce and you have just confirmed that so feeling more at ease,

I do hope all is well with your follow up next week and glad you are feeling better.

How long are people on purées for??, My sheets confusing as it says week 1-2 purées week 3-7 soft solids yet they penciled my start date for soft solids as 6/2/14... That would be 3 weeks? Surgery was 15/1/14

I think it all depends on you. I was told 4 weeks liquids, 4 weeks puree, 4 weeks soft and then go to solids how I feel comfortable.
