November 2014 Surgeries

Lovely to hear off you so quickly Sharona and really pleased it went well. Make sure you rest up now and take it easy...coughing really hurts but if you can try and hold your stomach as best you can when you cough as it provides some support and is less painful. I found it helped me, but it is still painful, just less so...one tip, if you need to cough then cough...don't make my mistake and try to hold it back otherwise you'll have a horrendous coughing fit and be in a lot more pain from the wounds as a result of extended coughing ?

Welcome to the other side though ? wishing you a very speedy recovery xx

Hurrah! welcome back Sharona, well done on the lsd. Go steady now, nice deep breaths I found helped to as you try to breathe shallow and the nurse told me to avoid that. Take care xx

Hello all. I am still in hospital. I had the band removed and converted to a sleeve. I have not been able to keep fluids down so I have been on a drip constantly. I have had two barium swallow tests and the sleeve is fine so they are not, sure, what is causing the sickness.

Congrats to Gweni, icawm and finally sharona. We all made it safely through and that is the important thing.

I just want to go home.

TB x

Hi TB lovely to hear from you. I'm glad they went ahead with the sleeve op as well. I know what you mean about wanting to go home, but rest up and take it easy, the first few days are tough xxx

well done girls TB and Sharona this is the worst bit, I remember thinking what the **** have I done. Now I feel like its the best decision I ever made

Lovely to hear from you TB and glad that they went ahead with the conversion surgery...make sure you rest and don't try to do too much, I found I was particularly ill with sickness the second day (after feeling fine all morning) and wasn't better until I had actually been sick. I also found that the fast tabs they were giving and prescribed me to come home on were giving me chronic nausea, as soon as I put it in my mouth to dissolve I'd be retching or sick soon after, I've now switched to omeprazole and much better but might be worth seeing if that could be the cause too....hope you feel better though, and remember that whilst you are suffering with sickness and not keeping anything down you are in the best place xx

Lovely to hear from Gweni, TB and Sharona. Hope everyone else is doing well.

TB, I also had a lot of sickness for the first few days and I had loads of IM injections if an anti-nausea drug, which helped. Sorry, no idea what it was. The vomiting passed after a couple of days and the nausea after a couple more. Everything gets better!

A question for anyone who can help.

Are there any official restrictions on driving after a sleeve? Is it like a hysterectomy where your insurance won't cover you up to 6 weeks?

congrats to all the ops this week.glad ur all ok.

maggy I think any surgery where uve had a general anacetic there is restrictions but best to ring insurers to see how long for x

on driving I was told no driving till I was off pain medication, in my case that was four days, but I left it a week

I was told by the consultant that i could drive after a week provided I could do an emergency stop !! I had a sleeve fitted and drove after 9 days - once I could move around easily.
As far as I'm aware the insurance works the opposite you are allowed to drive unless you are told by a doctor that you can't
I hope that makes sense. Good luck with your recovery x

Gweni and ICAWM I hope you are both feeling pain free and preparing to go home

How lovely to hear from You Sharona. I'm so pleased it all went to plan for you. Take it easy and sip sip sip

TB I hope your recovery is going well and you are feeling settled and pain free

Keep on drinking.....????

The wind pain makes me wanna cry but I keep on drinkin lol

Gweni, I did cry in the end with the wind pain, I just let the tears roll down my face, in a strange way I found it a release to do so. I never knew keyhole surgery could cause such pain, but not surprising when they pump all that CO2 inside you. Xx

With driving I think it depends on your consultant...I had a sleeve and was told no driving for 10 days which meant I had to delay my return to work by a day. I was safe to drive at that point but it was still uncomfortable...I didn't even think to phone my insurers lol oops!

So pleased your through it safe Gweni!... Are you home now?... Try and move around as much as you can for the wind pain and take the tums, or sip peppermint tea etc. Heat pads help also! X

I'm glad to see we Are all through the other side!!

I wish all the lovely ladies speedy recoveries with minimal pain. And hope your all home soon!!

I was told no driving for 3-5 days bc of emergency stop.

Xx

When I was banded it was 7 days before I could drive as staples needed to be out but on my bypass it was 14 days but what made me laugh was I had a seatbelt on after day 1 on band and day 4 with bypass on my way home from hospital my wife drove me home but glad she did I don't think I would have been safe

There you go SHARONA home and dry, you did well :D. Now plenty of rest look after that cough, and we will speak soon. Take care. xxxx
