POSE Surgery

All the best Stillbig. I'm so pleased for you that you decided to stick with it.

I'm also pleased you'ved posted on here as there don't seem to be many of us and not many that are posting much (I hope that means those that have had it are doing ok!!)

Only 3 weeks wait for mine now, so getting a little apprehensive. However, like you I shall be careful what I eat prior to the date.

Were you advised to go on the liver shrinking diet or have you decided to do it of your own volition after your bad experience?

Take care and thinking of you.

hi von, was advised to do the liver shrinking diet, guess better safe than sorry, on liquids today and tomorrow so there's no way anything is in that stomach of mine saturday..I will keep you posted as i know how eager we all are to know more of this procedure..

Poor you but as you say, better safe than sorry.

I've just caught up with a lady on another forum and she's 7 days down the road and feels great. She's obvioulsy lost quite a bit of weight already but appreciates that's due to the liquid diet she's on but the good thing is she feels well.

Thinking of you.

I have not posted for a few days as it has been a busy week for me. I am dog sitting for a friend who went on a cruise and she is coming to pick up her pet today. Its an old dog and not much trouble, but my cat is terrified of her. Don't know why because the dog ignores the cat, but the cat is easily frightened. She was a feral kitten that I adopted from off the street.

Von, 3 C-sections, Wow you are experienced at surgery!! I was hoping to find a support group here in my town, but had not had any luck. I feel fortunate to have found this forum.

I am still taking digestive enzymes and probiotics and while I still have some gas, it does seem to be diminishing. I do notice that I cannot eat nearly as much as I used to. I serve myself half the size I used to eat, then usually cannot finish it.

My doctor advised me to eat enough protein and cut way back on the carbs - I haven't done that yet due to all the problems I have had, but plan on doing so this coming week.

I received another hospital bill - this one was for the week I spent there with Pancreatitis and the Gallbladder surgery - it is $80,000.00, so now have a total bill of over $140,000.00 - and still don't have an invoice the surgeon as yet.

Von, it seems like your health care system is much superior when it comes to cost saving. Here in the US it is "Big Business" and lots of profit for the investors.

Hoping to hear from Stillbig soon and will be interested in how the procedure went. :cross:

hi everyone, had pose yesterday and feeling well today, apart from a sore throat im reasonably well, got 8 anchors in and everything went quite smooth, on liquids now for two weeks then pureed/soft . was sick a couple of times post op, but that was due to wind and only water to come up anyway so was fine.have a bit of a sore head but that is likely withdrawal from all that junk im used to eating, all in all feeling good and glad its behind me. Not long for you now Von..

Hi Stillbig,

great to hear from you and that so far you are feeling good. I hope that it stays that way for you. I bet you were relieved to wake up this time and be told that it was all done.

No doubt the anaesthetic may have had a little something to do with the thick head as well as food withdrawl.... hopefully it'll pass soon.

Good luck on the liquid diet. That's the bit I bet we'll both be pleased when it's over with, although the resulting weight loss will hopefully be the sweetner.

Eastbruce, glad that your gas problem is easing. Maybe all that dog walking has helped to shift it a bit......!! I have 2 dogs and I know that one of them would probably "kill" a cat if it was in close proximity. I guess they really have to be brought up together to get a cat/dog combination to work really well.

Your medical bills are truly eye watering. I hope that most if not all is covered by your insurance?

We have the National health Service (NHS) paid for by our taxes but not so good these days with constant cutbacks and the usual problem of too many well paid chiefs and not enough poorly paid Indians.

The private sector is better but of course very expensive and although a lot would be covered by insurance, there is also a lot that isn't, including bariatrics.

I would have to have a BMI of at least 50 (mine is 42) to get on a very long list to qualify for NHS cover which would then be a band or bypass, so a lot of people end up paying for their wls.

Just over 2 weeks now and counting down.

Anyway, so great to hear from you both and keep posting when you can.

Glad to hear from you Stillbig and it sounds like the procedure went well. I believe post op nausea is normal - I know they gave me anti-nausea injections twice afterwards.

Were you in the hospital overnight or did you go home the same day?

Von, you are right about cats & dogs. I have one dog and two cats. The dog chases both cats, but while the kitten, Violet, runs off in fright, the older cat, Pansy, slaps the dogs face, hisses, and will even sometimes chase the dog out of the room.
I figure the dog was asking for it! :chores016:

hi eastbruce, i was kept in over night . feeling much the same today, thick head and sore throat and really just weak. have had orange juice and a coffee made with milk so far today, dont feel sick at all and havent been bothered with the wind and shoulder pain that others had , may try a milkshake later to try and get some calories in me.
take care you all x

A very warm:welcome2: and every good wish on your wls journey.... love and hugs xxx :)

Still big, congrat's. I'm sure you're happy to be on the other side of the surgery. You've had 8 anchors, can I ask what your bmi is?

My shoulder pain didn't start until day 4! So don't be surprised if it suddenly turns up. Make sure you stick to the liquids it'll give your tummy time to heal. I suggest you vary your liquids or it'll get very boring very quickly.

Good luck and well done!

thanks thinkingman, my bmi was 36 ..tryin to vary my liquids going from bovril to orange juice , also sugar free jelly, allowed yoghurts from day 4 so that should help..

That liquid diet gets old very fast, doesn't it Stillbig - my throat stopped hurting after 3 days and that was a relief. Hang in there, things will get better! :fingerscrossed:

yes eastbruce it sure does, my sore throat has almost gone now too, the only side effect im having is being terribly weak, which i guess is just down to having no food, so onwards and upwards , von gets her procedure done this saturday, when have they told you to fast from von?

Hi Stillbig,

no I'm on the 5th or 6th of April (date still to be confirmed), so 2 weeks to go yet. I haven't been in for my pre op visit yet, so I'll let you know after that.

However, I think I'll stick to slimfast the day before just to be on the safe side.

Glad your throat is better. Could also be the anaesthetic that has taken it's toll on you as well? It takes a while for that to leave the body, so I believe.

I keep thinking I ought to be stocking up the cupboard with drinks and soft foods in preparation. I shan't be trundling down to the supermarket straight after, that's for sure.

I've already arranged for the dogs to go on their holidays for 2 weeks after as I certainly won't want to be going on long walks with them straight away and even when they are here in the house, I'm for ever getting up and down and wiping muddy paws as they love to be in and out of the garden.

Anyway, you take it easy and hope you feel stronger soon.

this has been a fascinating read!!

good luck von on the 5th/6th and hope u dont get the dreaded shoulder pain stillbig!

Hi all,

Just to say that I got my letter from the Nuffield Leeds today and I'm booked in for Wed 6th April with the pre op assessment a week today.

Just getting a little jittery now.

:wee:Congratulations Von, Is your pre-op assessment an endoscopy? I ask because that's what mine was - two days before the scheduled procedure.

A little nervousness is natural before any surgery, so sounds like you are normal. You will come through it fine - just like Stillbig did. :party0048:

Hi Eastbruce,

There was no mention in the letter of what to expect at the pre-op appointment, only that it lasts roughly an hour.

Thinkingman had his op at the same hospital, so maybe he'll come on soon and enlighten us.

I'm trying not to dwell on the procedure too much but as you say a few nerves are normal.

To be honest, I'm more concerned about the liquid diet after the op. I can imagine by the 2nd week, the novelty of "liquid only" may wear very thin-:(

Thinking of you all, Thinkingman, Eastbruce and Stillbig.

Von,
I had two pre-op appointments, the first one was for blood work etc, but the second one was for an endoscopy (which took about an hour) and I was under anesthesia for it. I mention this because I had to have someone drive me home. Hopefully, they will have more communication with you about what to expect. :p

hi everyone, 5 days after op and im feeling great, still no sign of shoulder pain and never really had any bother due to wind, gas etc, sore throat totally gone, may have something to do with liver shrinking diet and liquids only 2 days post op, got the housework all done today and just about to head over the park with my dog , coping ok on liquid diet von, low fat muiller yoghurts, nice fruit smoothies , slim a soups with bits removed, ice lollies, jelly, hot chocolate, and an occasional latte, its the only way i can take milk..x
