Rake Lane/North Tyneside Update

well he made it quite clear tht he wudnt b doing any1 with out the surgeons say so at a min of 2yr post op and a steady bmi of 27 or below! even if u booked him private he wudnt do it without surgeon say so! so basically if ya need extra help its not as easy as ud like....nhs way u have 2 apply thru PCT agen n they have 2 think ya suitable 4 free plastics ie......a bit of a tummy tuck or ya bingo wings wont cut the mustard u have 2 have a serious amount of loose skin 2 even be considered!
but obvs if u meet the criteria u can pay private aslong as ya surgeon says ya fit enuf etc n tht uve lost as much as ya guna lose so its safe 2 do it. he only wont do it b4 2yrs cos ya still at a risk of losing more but by the end of the 2nd yr u shud have lost the bulk of all u need 2 lose....phewwwwww a think tht all makes sense lol.
i will ask me friend if she fancies coming along and if she does then i will have a lift and if she doesnt i will look into bus info 2 get me there! xxx

That's what I've been told about the plastics hun. I think the problem most people have is the rubbing of excess skin and infections it causes. I've noticed already that my tummy has started to droop down as I lose weight. Lovely eh!!
The lady who runs the Freeman Group has had plastics so she can probably inform us a little more.
xx

If mine ends up so bad then al have 2yrs to save up and get sorted private...its me bingo wings that im more bothered about...but hey ho 1 step at a time eh!! We will get there eventually lol xxx

Hi lovlies :)
I'm just starting my WLS journey and have been refered for my WLS by my GP. I'm 23 and have quite a few co-morbities. I work in elderly medicine as an auxillary nurse (at the actual hospital im being operated on :D) Ive already lost 2 stone so far. I'm feeling very excited and nervous and just wish I could go in tommoro to have it done!
Not alot of my family want me to have the WLS done but my mum who comes to all my hospital stuff is very keen and thinks itll be life changing for me.
I'm just intrigued about recovery. I was planning on seeing just my big manager to see if I can leave 2 weeks annual leave floating, so I dont have to be off sick, as I dont want people who I actually work with knowing ive had the band. How long are you generally off work for? I'm hoping I can have 2 weeks holiday (and have the band done at the start of the 2 weeks) and return to work after my 2 weeks :)
VIKKIE x

Hiiii....most i no have taken 4 weeks off but i guess its individual as to what u can manage....baring in mind ul b tired doing tht type of job so the longer the better id say. Do u have a surgery date yet? X

Hello ladies..
I had my 1st pre-op today. The actual pre-op with bloods, swabs etc.
It didn't take anywhere near as long as they have previously at the RVI and the ladies were lovely.
The nurse I saw previously worked on the Bariatric Ward and we had a little chat.
The night before the op we need to go for an anti-clotting injection. We just pop along (my appt is 4 as I have a morning op) they weigh us & give the appropriate amount. Then off home to panic lol.
Apparently Mr Woodcock has been known to let people go home after 1 night if young, fit & well. As I've got a stomach problem he might want me in for 3 nights to make sure I'm OK.
Rake Lane does not do the milk diet pre-op. It's just a low carb, high protein diet so we can have most of our Xmas dinner except the carb trimmings.
I also asked if there was any chance we would get bumped on the list at this late point. Apparently it's very unlikely as Mr Woodcock has a separate list for Bariatric & emergency cases so they rarely collide. The people who were hit by the Public Sector strike recently have been added to the list for February. We won't be budged to accomodate them, plus it's almost certain there won't be any further strikes between now & our op dates.
Anyway hope you're well ladies. I'll be seeing you next Wed!!
4/3 weeks to go. Woop woop.
xx

Glad your pre-op went well Louise! :D I'll have my fingers crossed for a speedy recovery for you :)
I'm honestly hoping i'll get away with just having the 2 weeks holiday otherwise ill have to go on the sick :(
No op date or anything yet... :(
Is anyone going to the meeting next week????? :)

Great Louise on ur pre op. Woo hoo not long now for us :) we can now say 3 weeks so many days, and 2 weeks so many days for you wencho lol It will be the best Christmas present we will ever have :) see you next week Louise :) x x x

ive got anemia and an ulcer i never knew about but app thts all ok 2 b opped on stil...stil waitin 4 biopsy results tho so a suppose tht n the pre op ass wil fully decide if op goes ahead.....just shows even wen u get tht op date ya not out the woods with a guarentee until ya over n done with lol. start pre op diet on wed aswel....think tht wil b ok...apart from its added 40 quid 2 me shoppin bill hahaha.....hope yous r all well :) xxxx

Yeah Suzie, looking forward to meeting you!!
Wencho... what kind of stuff is on the pre-op diet sheet? Worried now lol.
My camera & biospy were clear luckily but as I regularly have investigations on my tummy I was already MOT'd and serviced lol.
At least they can treat your ulcer hun. I'm sure everything will be OK. Toes & fingers crossed for you!!
xx

I'm so glad me mam has just got lots of meat for christmas. I'll just nick some off her that will last me a few days lol and she's going to make me 2 dinners one for Christmas day and one for boxing day that's 2 days sorted no potato of course and everything weighed :) hi Minniemouse I'm sure as long as he's fully aware then think it shouldn't be a problem they might just have to have more blood on standby :) x

I've not had my seminar yet but I'm going to attend the meet ups at the hospital so I know as much as I can about Banding :)
I'm really eager to just get the ball rolling, I'm hoping to get my seminar jan/feb time as everyone I've read about at myth tend to get seminar within 2/3 months of referral :)

Ye Minniemouse most have a 2 month wait till seminar the longest wait is from seminar to nurse which is between 4-6 months then it's all systems go with appointments, I would give them a ring in first week jan and ask if they have received your referral for surgery :) x

Me, Louise and wencho are all under a year from seminar to surgery and think this is the norm no matter which surgery you choose :) I think wencho had seminar in April-may thisyear and her op is 28 december :) rakelane has quick waiting time compared to most. When you have been to seminar leave it a few weeks then ring and ask if theirs any cancellations for nurses appointment, worth a try hehehe ;) x

hehe now that IS cheeky, I work at the hospital so can go very very short notice if I need to! :D
I posted in the FB group for NTGH and someone said roughly 18 months
TBH I wanted to know time scales more from a work point of view, because I want to see if the big managers at work will let me take 2 weeks annual leave and my days off either side which is just on 3 weeks ill have to recover!
My friend has been refered and had her seminar 6 month ago and has heard nothing and hasnt chased it up..i dont want to be pestering the poor nurses and dr's all the time :)
