Evening all. Well the last few weeks have really caught up with me. I am totally exhausted.
I went to the hospital today for a check up and fill. I got caught up with work stuff and was late leaving for my appointment. When I got into the car and turned the key - nothing
. I went into a mild panic and after about 10 goes it finally started. It has never done that to me before.
Anyway Mr TB and I got there in time. I got called in and weighed. They used different scales. They still haven't sorted out what my weight record from the problem they discovered when I had my op
.
I was called again expecting to see the surgeon and then was surprised to find it was the dietician. I wondered if it was because of my weight. We talked and I explained I have been suffering with really bad fluid retention since my meds were changed. I showed her my legs and ankles and she was very concerned. I told her that they were better than they were. She said it would take time to sort itself out and that on the positive side at least I had been able to come off the toxic combination of tablets I was on.
I must admit to being suspicious about seeing the dietician because I have never known her be at a check up appointment with either band or bypass patients. We had a discussion about the fact I would be back on 2 weeks of liquid and 2 weeks of mushies and she offered to write to my GP to prescribe me fortimel. I told her I hated the stuff. She suggested slimfast. I have never used slimfast and prefer the whey protein with skimmed milk. She was happy with that. She asked about my restriction and I told her that altough I felt some restriction I know I could eat more but chose not to. She said I should have a fill and said she would see the surgeon and tell him.
I had a bit of a wait to see the surgeon. He said I should have a fill and suggested I have 1 ml. He said that he never puts more than 2 ml in at any time. We had a little discussion about it because I know how my body is and having been thinking about it and how I felt with the first fill that he ought to put 2 ml in. He listened - we talked more than he agreed to put in 2 ml
.
Unfortunatley the fill was a painful expereince. He had trouble last time locating where he puts the needle in and it was even worse this time. Twice the needle slipped and he gave me a jab which made me cry out. By the time he got it in and did the necessaries I was in a lot of pain and bleeding. The nurse put a dressing on. It is very, very sore:cry:.
i explained to him that I had this lump and asked me to check it. he examined me lying flat and standing. He said he didn't think it was a hernia but to keep an eye on it and he would look at it again at my next appointment in 2 months. he said if the pain increased to see my GP.
He told me not to leave the hospital until I had sat for half an hour and had a cup of something to make sure that the band was not too tight. I think he was worried after he had done it. Anyway I did have a cup of coffee and it took me a while to get it down. We set off for home having been there for nearly 2 hours. It was a lovely afternoon the sun was shining and I quite enjoyed being out. Mr TB has been unwell for some time so it was good to get him out of the flat and into the fresh air. I might suggest a walk in the park tomorrow if the weather is as good
.
Since I have been home I have been hit by a wave of exhaustion - probably because I had to do a couple of hours work on some urgent stuff. I should have got into bed which is what I wanted to do.
I tried a protein shake about 2 hours ago and I am still feeling it going down. I hope that it is just as a result of the fill and that I have not got too much in and the band is too tight. I will watch it over the next few days. I now have 4ml in a 14cc band.
Sarah that was a very positive post you did earlier. I must admit I am getting sick to the back teeth of the band bashing
.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and good luck with the weigh ins tomorrow. I will post my food intake just to keep up the habit. So today I have had:
Actimel
2 cups of coffee - early on so as not to interfere with the fill
whey protein shake made with skimmed milk
A little water
I will keep sipping water and try a soup later on if I feel like it although at the moment I do not think I could manage it.
I have rambled enough
