Thanks

Congratulations maya! brilliant weight loss!! I love the way you put L/F philly on cucumber rather than on a crispbread or melba toast. I'm going to try that, as it would help keep my carbs down..

Hi Mark

i've just got back into mashed swede, i love it especially with loads of pepper.

i didn't think i would be able to survive without potatoes buts its actually been quite easy with things like swede & sweet potato.

i tried melba toast the other day but it caused a nasty blockage and a huge amount of pain so i'm back to soft foods again for a couple of weeks. wont do that again!!!!

Everything taste so different post op - i trying old things & seeing how they taste now. some aren't so good but others are wonderful. that sounds really gushing & OTT but its like starting all over again as my taste buds have changed soooooooo much

Well done Maya. Excellent loss.

Menu today -
Breakfast - Slice of tiger bread toasted.
Lunch - A flat mushroom stuffed with phily extra light, ham and spring onions, baked in the oven.
Dinner - Tuna steak marinated in low salt soy, garlic, ginger and coriander with steamed broccoli and baby corn.
Snack - half fat cheese on 2 Ryvita crackerbreads. Pineapple.

Good evening everyone!!

Todays menu below! but a complete disaster in truth.. All the wrong choices and managed to consume over 850 calories and far too many grams of fat and carbs......

B 100mls Skim Milk & 80gms Strawberries
L 150gm Turkey breast, 30gm roast beef & 100gm potato salad.
D 30gm Turkey breast & 50gm potato salad & 50gm coleslaw
S pkt walkers light crisps
S Ski L/F Mousse

Protein 84.5 - Calories 880 - Carbs 54.5gms - Fat 42gms
Drinks 25gm protein shot - litre NAS - 2 cups tea - 1 cup black coffee

The potato salad and coleslaw I had was full fat and it didnt make me at all ill, so am really going to have to exercise some serious self control over my food choices...

I was just thinking your day's food looked pretty virtuous and feeling really glad for you that you can tolerate so many 'normal' foods!

880 calories is low, surely? Think of all the diets you've been on in the past; the only ones with fewer than 1000 calories were VLCDs. 800 calories approx. is the upper limit for the body to experience ketosis without carb restriction! Okay you are a bit over, but even so.

Does gastric bypass affect people in such a way as to require them to eat as few daily calories as possible? I would have thought that it would be difficult to build-up health and strength on so little food.

You need to give yourself more credit for the determined effort you are putting-in. I think you are doing a great job!

Calories, protein and carbs all seem fine to me. Your protein is always amazing, the most I manage is 60g's and that is at a push, and according to the daily recommendation of carbs the average person is 250g so technically anything below that is a low carb diet, anything below 100g is very low carb. I try to stick to below 60g's but try not to beat myself up if I go over occasionally, especially if I exercise a lot that day. Fat wise, well that depends on what was saturated fat and what was healthy fat? we all need healthy fat to live so if I was to pick your menu apart it would be full fat potato salad and coleslaw on the same day prob isn't a great idea but it's one day. Like we were saying the other day, all in moderation so if you don't have a day with a higher fat consumption for a while, then you're fine. I don't have any problems eating fat or it seems sugar (I've not tested this to extremes though and don't fancy trying but I definitely don't dump at the drop of a hat), so I have to think about choices I make too. I don't have can't eat this, that and the other that some people do and so some times I do eat things that aren't best choices but I know I make good choices most of the time and I know you do too :) x
