bypass daily menu -

The important thing is to be aware of the dangers and not kid yourself - the bad habits will always be there. Now we always have the power to say hang on - what I'm doing isn't right and we choose a different way of managing our need for food. It's being aware enough to know you need to make that choice

Thanks everyone - so much to learn I'm dying to get out of this body and know a bypass is no quick fix. I want to be prepared and learn as much as I can:)

At somepoint we all go off plan a little.... It's recognising you are doing it and not substituting real nutritious food for something to fill u .....because you are busy/in a rush/have no time/cant wait/deserve it/ worked out/at work/at home/ out and about/tired/have pmt/feel ill.....yadda yadda yadda....lol time to be honest with ourselves!.

So so true! Its surprising how many excuses we can make for ourselves! But its not the falling off the wagon that changes its the getting back on. Preop I would fall off for months at a time - now if I do fall its for at most a week before I start to remind myself that I chose this op and the better health and increased self responsibility that goes with it.

The op will give you some really fantastic tools to help, smaller capacity, radically reduced hunger, maybe even a change your tastes. And the fear of dumping (or not dumping) is a great deterrent. I've only ever dumped once, my uncle poisoned me with mango chutney without my knowledge, lol! But I can tell you that I am only just over 4 months out, I can pretty much eat what I like. I'm 100% certain I could gain weight if I didn't make a conscious effort everyday to stick to the quotas I've set for myself. I have accepted that there will always be a little voice inside of me, telling me to eat just that little bit more. But these days its only a little voice, not the booming one it used to be. Dont get me wrong, it is not like being on a diet, its a very positive experience, and for me a bit of a journey of self discovery. Good luck with your appointment.

I agree it's so true what you say I try to eat protein and focus real good then have a slide for a few day then get back on track

The further out you get the tougher the journey and the more we seem to push the boundaries and then realise what we did, then we have a wobble a stern talk to ones self and back on track again. It scares me that I could go back to where I have been do not want that at all. I have been talking to a lady today about my op, she still like most herad the word gastric and thought I had a band boy did she get the explanation, I always explain that this is for life, very unlikely to be reversed as it is a very tricky and difficult op which docs don't intend to do unless in a diar emergency. Its amazing how long one can talk about this experience I love it when people ask I can talk for 20 minutes easy bout my experiences, love it. I alos get to explain how serious an op it is not just a quick op but very serious if something should go wrong. x

Have had the worst day. Woke up at 4am because my husband was screaming pain. He was suffering central chest pain, with tingling down his left arm. I was so alarmed and worried I called an ambulance. So we were in a&e from 5am, lots of tests and lots of worry. Thankfully his heart is fine, it turns out he has severe spinal inflammation (possibly caused by arthritis) and the pain was manifesting in his chest. So we got sent home with some good pain killers and a referral for rheumatology. I know I'm a nurse, but when its one of your own its so different.

I must admit I had strong urges to eat lots of choccy biscuits - I didn't. But not entirely sure I know what I have eaten today, because I normally write it down. I know I've had about 5 coffees, but otherwise I've been good.
