bypass daily menu -

I'm really strict with trying to keep my portions small, I am terrified of stretching my pouch and I really try not to eat anything overly sweet/sugary/calorific/carb-filled!! I want to get down to under ten stone and I'm 15.9 at the moment so can't afford to start slipping!! Xx

Maya what size are your portions? I try to stick to a side plate or childrens plate but still think its too much lol

Breakfast if porridge is around 35g, I eat from a small square side plate which is smaller than a kids pmate so lunch will be maybe two new potatoes, a tbsp veg and the meat was a couple of small slices if I have a cold lunch its two or three melba toast topped with Philly and a slice of ham or eight prawns ...quite small - sometimes I can/will eat more or have a snack I think i do need to increase cals a bit x

right girl as you are my inspiration - no pressure! lol Im gonna look into resizing my portions again x

I just had my bypass on Tuesday and I'm finding it hard to eat all my portions. The info I received from hospital said i should be having 6 servings of protein, 2 veg, 2 fruit and 2 carb. But if I have a 1 protein and 1 veg for lunch, thats 50gs. Is that too much?

Something I discovered a couple of weeks ago is using an American cup measurement. I brought the measuring cups off Amazon very cheaply and I use the half cup measure for my meals. Just fill it up when dishing up and then put it on a tea plate. It definitely fills me up as before then I was rough guessing it and tend to eat an extra mouthful here and there that brought me discomfort. I imagine I will eventually be able to eat a bit more than that but they do 3/4 cup and a whole so think I'll keep using them. It really works for me :) x

Is that when pureed? Doesn't sound too much to me. I used a ramekin to measure out my portions in the early days, and 1/2 - 3/4 mug for soup :) x

Yes, Still pureed stage. For the next four weeks. Thank you for that. Me and my hubby were going through the diet from the hospital tonight and realised I should be eating 25g of proteina and a tablespoon of veg, but I was having 25g of it. I have never had a full feeling, but worried it was too much

Ive been the same , its only natural to worry about eating too much

Yeah very natural to worry. Not sure it goes away completely to be honest but something you will get is a full feeling, right now you are numb from surgery, as you start to heal you will feel the restriction more. Around 4 weeks post op I started feeling it for definite, and it's steadily increased since then, especially when you get past the purée and mushy stage, as that food just slips through. As long as you keep following your post op info from your hospital you will be fine :) x

I couldn't eat anywhere near the recommended levels at the beginning of my levee op & got very stressed out about it. My team said not too worry at the earlier stages. Just remember good quality protein first before anything else. Always take your vits & minerals. Always drink 2 litres of fluids. I settled down more once they helped me on that. As I progressed the 60g plus target for protein really worried me coz I just couldn't eat it all. My dietician said aim for 40 g a day. I am generally meeting this but only with help of 1 high protein soup or shake a day. Find it hard to et any real volume even over 1/2 hour. Have to chew chew chew but very restricted in what I can eat even coming up to 6 months post op. Still I am doing pretty well on it & slowly getting better at introducing new foods & textures. 7 1/2 stones down since op. Seeing dietician on Thursday so will let you know.

Tried bread this morning. Just under a quarter of toasted sandwich. Very filling but it did go down ok. I won't be making a habit of it as I know it can slow down weight loss for me if I have too much but nice to know I can have it if I want.

Plans for today -

Breakfast - Quarter of toasted lf mozzarella and avocado sandwich.
Lunch - grilled chicken and olives.
Dinner - Grilled chicken, sprouts, carrots, half a small roast potato, half Aunt Bessie's yorkshire.
Snack - Grapes.
Drinks - Lots of water and tea.

B: banana and LF custard
L: cheese and ham
D: haven't decided.
Fluid: lots
Snacks: trying not to but it will be a soya yoghurt or babybel if I need it.

LubiLu I was exactly the same but, like everyone says you WILL get the full feeling. I thought oh everyones just saying that to reassure me but it is true! The more proper food I eat the more I find I'm fuller quicker.
You'll get there :)
